Tallahassee SCLC sends letter opposing domestic partnerships to city commission

As you can see with this sad story of the oppressed taking on the role of oppressor, it's not just about the word "marriage" for some people -- even domestic partnerships (certainly not mentioned in any bible I've heard of), are in the bulls-eye.

The Tallahassee City Commissioners recently received a terse anti-gay statement from the local chapter of the Southern Christial Leadership Conference, an organization founded by Dr. Martin Luther King. If the officers and board should be ashamed of themselves for a missive like this (click on image to see letter). A snippet:

We the members of the SCLC are very displeased of the recent actions of the commission to revise a policy to allow same-sex and domestic partners to receive benefits as married couples are receiveng. Mr. Mayor, what may be politically correct, may not be morally or eeithically feasible for the stability and growth of the Tallahasee community.

Mr. Mayor and Commissioners, your actions do not reflect the moral or cultural attitude of the majority of citizens you represent. Why should we as taxpayers be forced to compromise our integrity to pay benefits to a society of who the state have not determined or recognized as legal?? Your leadership on this police has sent a dark cloud over this city that expresses a moment of shame and degradation.

2. No wonder now that homophobe Bernice KING is in charge of SCLC.
I'm sure her dad MLK, Jr. and her mom Coretta are ashamed of that twat.

5. I have the greatest respect for Dr. and Mrs. King. They are true American icons.
Their daughter, the homophobic, religious bigot Bernice: she can kiss my ass. She does not deserve the King name.

3. The response from the Los Angeles chapter of the SCLC is illuminating:
The denial of rights and privileges to one group of people because of their sexual orientation is, unquestionably, an injustice. To deny rights and privileges to any group that all others enjoy is a violation of equal protection under the law. Furthermore, to deny one group of people rights and privileges based on certain religious prescriptions violates the principle of separation of church and state.

While many disagree with same-sex relationships based on their respective faith-beliefs, it is those same beliefs that once justified slavery, segregation, legal discrimination and miscegenation laws. Our faith should not be used to discriminate, oppress or marginalize any group of people. Our faith should be used to affirm the dignity of everyone's humanity. Our faith should be used as a vehicle to justice, equality and freedom for all of God's people.

-- Reverend Eric P. Lee - SCLC of Greater Los Angeles

That second paragraph is worth the price of admission...

4. This is just plain crazy!
I know people who are in the SCLC of Tally, and I can say the views are not shared by the entire organization.

9. One real obnoxious poster was banned for unreccing all the LGBT threads.
Do you remember jazzjunkysue? She got away with behaving like a psychopath for years, but the unreccing business finally got her banned.
