A brilliant Glee tonight
I don't want to spoil it for West Coasters but the scenes between Kurt and his dad need to be seen to be believed. Also Artie has pipes.

Kurt and his Dad was awesome too.

W/out saying anything to spoil the show. This should be shown at highschools everywhere!

`Glee’ wheelchair episode hits bump with disabled
By The Associated Press
11.10.2009 6:00pm EST

(Los Angeles) The glee club members twirl their wheelchairs to the tune of “Proud Mary” and in joyful solidarity with Artie, the fellow performer who must use his chair even when the music stops.

The scene in Wednesday’s episode of the hit Fox series “Glee,” which regularly celebrates diversity and the underdog, is yet another uplifting moment – except to those in the entertainment industry with disabilities and their advocates.

For them, the casting of a non-disabled actor to play the paraplegic high school student is another blown chance to hire a performer who truly fits the role.

“I think there’s a fear of litigation, that a person with disabilities might slow a production down, fear that viewers might be uncomfortable,” said Robert David Hall, longtime cast member of CBS’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”

All of that is nonsense, said Hall: “I’ve made my living as an actor for 30 years and I walk on two artificial legs.”

6. That is a disappointment
I did not know that 'Artie' didn't actually have a disability.

My son was in every school play possible from Elementary through High School. His use of a wheel chair did not slow down or mess up production (and he help w/set construction - I was a wreck having him use power tools but the set manager asked 'why not?' I had no go argument why he couldn't do it).

7. Silliness.
While I understand what he is saying, we don't know that someone with a disablity applied and didn't get the part. Besides, is "Kurt" really gay? How many gay roles go to non-gay actors? How about transgender roles? It is called ACTING for a reason.

8. Chris Colier is gay from an interview in the Advocate
but your broader point is valid as often non gay actors play gay parts.

9. Thanks for that info.
I am glad you can see my broader point. I found one of the biggest examples of this was in the movie "Crash," when the "Iranian" woman was mistaken for "Arab." Of course, the actress is Marina Sirtis, a British woman of GREEK origin. There are a number of roles where the actor is Korean but playing Chinese, etc.
