Washington, D.C. -- A protest rally held in Dupont Circle tonight brought together same-sex marriage supporters who say they were angered by yesterday's vote to overturn marriage rights in Maine.

A surprise attendee of the rally was Maggie Gallagher, President of the National Organization for Marriage. Gallagher's organization spearheaded the effort to repeal Maine's same-sex marriage law, and by a small majority -- 53 to 47 percent -- voters opted to revoke equal marriage rights in that state. It appeared to bother some attendees of tonight's rally that Gallagher would appear at a pro-gay marriage event, yet the estimated crowd of 120 mostly left her alone as she observed the hour-long protest.

Gallagher said she had just been at a nearby building and it was by "great coincidence" that she was passing by. She stated that she was not attending the event as part of a professional capacity and did not wish to go on camera for an interview. Yeah right, you lying swine!

<snipping>

After the rally ended, Gallagher was asked if opponents of same-sex marriage like her were enjoying the ability to prevent people from having the right to get married. She replied that "People can make up what they want, but they can't make up what's in my head.... I am enjoying the victory in Maine for which we fought hard, but I am not enjoying seeing people disagree with me. No." Asked to explain what exactly "the victory" was, she stated, "People disagree on this issue. And I think it's important to hear what people who disagree with you say. That's why I showed up."
Wait a minute there, Missy.... didn't you say that it was only a "great coincidence" that you were passing by the protest rally?

3. She lies badly but she lies naturally
As do most of the religiously unkind. But I'm sure that's just a great coincidence. The fact that those who cast stones are such casual liars. It is a coincidence.

Profiles of NOM's board:
http://www.nationformarriage.org/site/c.omL2KeN0LzH/b.3479573/k.E2D0/About_NOM.htm

And more on Lyin' Maggie Gallagher, from Pam's House Blend (I love this site):
http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/10722/maggie-gallagher-nom-institute-for-marriage-how-to-get-wealthy-in-the-hategayforpay-industry

Beyond Maggie Gallagher receiving over $20,000 from the Bush misAdministration to "promote marriage" through her syndicated columns (without disclosing that she was being paid to write her opinions), she also serves as President, National Organization for Marriage (NOM) and as President for the Institute for Marriage and Public Policy (www.iMAPP.org). I've not been able to find NOM's IRS form 990's online yet, but a look at the one's filed for Institute for Marriage and Public Policy very clearly show that the woman pockets about 1/3 of the donations in the salary she pays herself alone.

2007 - http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2007/200/240/2007-200240184-03c761ac-9.pdf
Revenue from donations - $296,899
Gallagher's Salary - $125,000 (that's 42% of the donations before including payroll taxes and any benefits)
Other interesting, but non-specific expenses - $34,177 to 'consultants' and $37,048 for 'public relations'

2006 - http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2006/200/240/2006-200240184-0363080f-9.pdf
Revenue from donations - $413,171
Gallagher's Salary - $118,333 (that's 28% of the donations before including payroll taxes and any benefits)
Other interesting, but non-specific expenses - $33,893 to 'consultants' and $6,083 for 'public relations'

2005 – http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2005/200/240/2005-200240184-026cf278-9.pdf
Revenue from donations - $315,824
Gallagher's Salary - $102,000 (that's 32% of the donations before including payroll taxes and any benefits)
Other interesting, but non-specific expenses - $32,668 to 'consultants'

So over that 3 year period of time, people donated $1,025,894 – and Maggie put $345,333 (33%) straight into her own pocketbook. Plus any other benefits and travel. And this is just from one organization out of the many hate-gay-for-pay revenue streams she's gotten set up for herself.

The credit for that expose' on Lyin' Maggie goes to "Pam's House Blend". I love her website. Here's the URL for everyone: http://www.pamshouseblend.com/

This is a terrific site and here's an excerpt from her latest report:

Fed DOMA may leave LGBT couples out in the cold re: health care reform benefits
by: Pam Spaulding
Thu Nov 05, 2009 at 14:55:31 PM EST
Here we go again -- as the House vote on the $894 billion health care reform plan is looming on Saturday, a teensy problem affecting LGBTs seems to have cropped up in the language of the bill that will leave eligibility at the whim and interpretation of the Health Choices Commissioner position. (Wash Blade):

The bill, H.R. 3962, uses the terms "family" and "dependent," and advocates say the new Health Choices Commissioner - a position established in the legislation to oversee the insurance exchange - could interpret this language to mean someone's opposite-sex spouse, but not a same-sex spouse.

For example, the section describing the retiree reinsurance program - for which employer-based programs could submit claims to the government - says claims could be made on "employment based health benefits provided to a retiree or to the spouse, surviving spouse, or dependent of a retiree."

Brian Moulton, the Human Rights Campaign's chief legislative counsel, said the term "dependent" and "family" in the bill are "fairly open-ended" and "leave a lot of discretion to the new commissioner to define them."

"Certainly, there is some use of the term 'spouse' in the bill in some of the provisions, and certainly DOMA would control that definition of spouse," he said. "I think there are some areas where there's a potential there won't be access to some of the benefits."

Do you trust that this administration will put a person in this position that will interpret this language broadly or narrowly, given a broad interpretation will turn up the right wing spin machine?

11. LOL - that was my post on Pam's - I've never been "quoted" before
BTW, NOM is still trying to argue that they don't have to disclose their finances according to the law in Maine, Washington and a few other areas - I'm really hoping someone winds up in jail for their funding

10. I think it's time the IRS paid Lyin' Maggie a little visit, don't you?
It's time to expose these lying ass bigots who are raking in the cash from their "not-for-profit" hate organizations and turn the legal tables on them.

13. Right
She was probably attempting to recreate the Phyllis Burgess incident, sans styrofoam cross. Then she could go on a national tangent about how those "nasty homos" attacked her when she was just standing around watching their little rally.

Fucking lying, hateful, bigoted cunt.
