I can't help but wonder about lost opportunities...
... and how the vote in Maine might have gone, had the opportunities been embraced.

...I think it would be incredibly valuable if Pres. Obama simply spoke out more forcefully when the occasion presents.

His silence on Prop 8 was unfortunate. But his silence on the achievement of marriage equality in Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire was much worse, IMO: It was a lost opportunity.

That was a rare and precious moment of transformation, and it pains me that he let it go by. That he didn't seize the opportunity to energize and strengthen the trend in a way that he, uniquely, could have.

1. It pains me, but doesn't surprise me
He went out of his way to tell Rick Warren and friends that he didn't support gay marriage all during the campaign.

I didn't expect him to help us, but one would think he'd speak occasionally of tolerance, equality and compassion. He has one hell of a bully pulpit but apparently you have to be a banker or stockbroker to get any compassion out of this man. I expect nothing of him, and I'm never disappointed.

2. In Obama's plans, gay marriage = no, war/death/killing = yes nt
