The irony within this headline is a real award-winner, isn't it?

Same-Sex Marriage Opponents Protest at Freedom Plaza

WASHINGTON - Religious leaders and opponents of same-sex marriage held a gathering Sunday at Freedom Plaza to take a stand against gay marriage.

<snipping>

Opponents argue that marriage should be between a man and a woman and that the debate wouldn’t stop here.

“A father and a son. A mother and a daughter could come forward and say we want to be married,” said Rev. Boyles....

Notice all of the professionally printed ballons and signs in the photos. There is also a video at the link provided.

4. I'm wondering who paid for all those signs and balloons
They were professionally printed. Were they furnished with funds from an outside source or were these paid for with church funds?

8. This hypocrisy is reserved not just for the pious high and mighty...
But also for the less-than-pious high and mighty. After all, the tax-evading, womanizing, crackhead philanderer Marion Berry is among the leaders of this pathetic bunch. Another irony lost on this pack of losers.

10. More local coverage
The good news is the bill is expected to easily pass despite protests from the idiot fringe.

Rally Pushes For Public Vote On Gay Marriage In DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -- On the eve of public hearings on a bill to legalize gay marriage in the District of Columbia the opposition made themselves heard. Lead by clergy from many city churches, hundreds of people spent the afternoon in Freedom Plaza demanding the public have a say in the matter.

The rally organizers are pushing for a referendum on gay marriage rather than a simple council vote. While one side believes it is too important an issue to be decided only by council members the other side says the public shouldn't be voting on human rights issues.

The first of two days of hearings begins Monday afternoon before the Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary. The Examiner reports 269 people have signed up to speak at the hearings.

Despite the opposition voiced on Sunday, the bill is expected to easily pass with ten of 13 council members already offering support. Mayor Adrian Fenty has indicated he will sign a gay marriage bill presented to him by the city council.

12. Rev. Boyles doesn't like father-son marriages, but I guess he likes father-daughter.

Gay Marriage in DC: Ballot, Bill on Tap Today

Opponents and supporters of gay marriage are both getting a shot to voice their opinions on the issue today.

Bishop Harry Jackson, a Maryland minister, is leading those for a voter initiative opposing same-sex marriage in the District. Jackson and those behind the initiative, which would say "only marriage between a man and woman'' is valid in the city, will testify before the D.C. Board of Elections & Ethics at 10 a.m. at 441 4th Street, NW.

The two-member board will not vote Monday.

Jackson and his followers are pushing for a referendum on the issue in 2010 vs. a vote by the D.C. Council, which will hear testimony from more than 125 people -- opponents and supporters -- of the same-sex marriage bill today at 3:30 p.m. on the fifth floor of the John Wilson City Hall Building at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave., NW....
