Seattle Times: Gay partnership referendum makes ballot
OLYMPIA, Wash. —
Expanded domestic partnerships for same-sex couples could face a public vote after Washington officials ruled that referendum sponsors have enough voter support to force a referendum on the November ballot.

The new partnership law, nicknamed "everything but marriage" by its supporters, would broaden domestic partnerships by granting gay and lesbian couples all the remaining state-provided benefits that presently apply only to married heterosexual couples.

After a month of counting petition signatures, the secretary of state's office said that Referendum 71 had 121,617 valid signatures — nearly a thousand more than needed to advance to the general election.

They got enough signatures however Wednesday we will know if the signatures actually qualify (there is a court case).

During a hearing Monday afternoon, King County Superior Court Judge Julie Spector heard arguments from lawyers representing the Secretary of State, proponents of R-71 and Washington Families Standing Together, the group opposed to the referendum.

Families Standing Together filed a lawsuit last week requesting an injunction that would keep the referendum off the fall ballot. Spector said she will issue a ruling by Wednesday on the matter.

Heres to hoping.

If it does qualify I hope the campaign is better than the prop 8 one was. I suggest huge billboards with an 2-3 year old infant with the words "Protect my family - protect all families vote yes on 71". Its time to start using their own weapons of "family" against them. We are a family and they can go suck it IMO.

2. I'm sure the right wing shits who bought these initiatives were happily surprised
They were expecting to be turned down because they thought the judge might be "biased" against them. Oh the irony..... :eyes:

A deep concern that we have is that Judge Julie Spector is openly homosexual and activist. She is found on a list of openly homosexual elected officials. In her campaign to be elected to her seat in 2000, she was quoted in the September 13, 2000, edition of the Seattle Weekly, calling herself a "dyke". It is impossible to believe an openly homosexual activist judge could rule fairly in this case. We are considering our next step.

I wonder if this right wing turd will apologize now that the "homosexual activist judge" ruled in his favor? I'm not holding my breath........
