Original story: http://pageoneq.com/news/2005/Lesbian_couple_attacked_with_bat_in_Kans_0721.html

A lesbian couple was attacked in Kansas City by a woman using a bat as a weapon. According to an article in today's Kansas City Star (reg. req'd):

Two women told detectives Wednesday they were attacked by a bat-wielding woman because of their sexual orientation.

A 23-year-old victim suffered a concussion.

The other victim, whose age was unknown, was uninjured.

The attack occurred as the women were walking and holding hands about 1:30 a.m. July 14 at 39th and Holly streets.

The attacker remained at large Wednesday.

The Kansas City Police are asking anyone with information to call (816) 474-8477

1. Gays and their "special rights"..Like the right to walk down the street
without being attacked for HOLDING HANDS!

repukes have no idea what it feels like to be a second class citizen in this country.

they can whine and cry about their fantasy "war on christianity" in the u.s., but no one is trying to MURDER christians, simply for being "christians".

i hope whichever one of them who didn't get the concussion, ripped the bat out of that woman's hands and knocked her in the head with it. asshole bitch.

2. So, will the KC police actually do anything...
let's face it, folks, bad things happen to all kinds of people at that time of the night/morning. But sometimes I think GLBT folks and those of us who are on their side should form our own Minutemen-like group to keep these hateful pieces of shit away.

9. Liberals should support the WHOLE Constitution, including 2nd Amendment
I registered for my first gun permit on November 3rd.

And that doesn't mean I'm against gun control.

Otherwise, everyone would be running around with .50 guns mounted on their cars and a bazooka in the closet.

13. I never thought I would say this....
but it is definitely time for us to form our own militias to protect ourselves and those we care about in this society. The police department should be dragged through the mud for that statement and the press should be all over this - no citizen should be denied protection of public officers they pay taxes to maintain.

Now if I had only learned how to shoot a gun. . .I need some training in how to properly use a firearm.

On the other hand, if I had been around, that woman with the bat would have lost that weapon in a hurry, and I would have totaled her damned car with it so that she could exit the scene of her crime.

3. The religious right
IS GUILTY for more deaths.
The bible stokes homophobia because of what it SAYS in it .
Believe that book is literal and it will make a bigot of you.
Listen to hate radio and it will make you sick in the head.

I await the foaming evangelist soldiers for christ with thier glazed over eyes thinking the right to freedom of religion means the right to crusade and kill anyone who does not want thier kingdom now.

Churches were never just about spirituality folks. Lets get honest,.
In our culture there are no places to meeet no "commons" where the rabble can be roused.
Churches were the safehouses for civil rights once.
But the rightwing saw that and one uppped it,created big brainwashing outfits called megachurches. And the Cristian right also created cell churches organized"study groups" of believers...The "cell groups" to be scared of are not muslims as we are told.... they are cell churches from the megachurches. These fuckers are very organized.

The right wing has taken places and the public voices of the poor and the more radical of liberals away. Taken our places to interact away along with the public square, there is no place to be and interact with others and share ideas without paying money to sit there or submit to an agenda the space organizers want to push anymore.

6. All faiths are hijacked the first time someone says...
"Yes, there is an eternal reward, but you can't have it unless..."

10. There is more to the story than is being reported
I live just a few blocks from where the incident occurred. According to an e-mail alert sent out by the Anti-Violence Project (www.kcavp.org):

The Kansas City, Missouri police were called to the victim’s home after a passerby took the women home. More than 30 minutes later, two officers arrived who told the women “they didn’t have to respond to the call at all” and would not acknowledge that it was a hate crime even though anti-LGBT slurs had been yelled and was motivated because the two women were walking together. The police also gave no appearance of caring or motivation to pursue who perpetrated the crime. Both women are now recovering, one with head injuries including a concussion from the bashing.

It's bad enough to be victimized once. But to be re-victimized by the police who show no motivation to pursue the matter, refuse to list it as a bias crime and even tell the victims they "didn't have to respond to the call at all" compounds the hurt.
