And I thought the Log Cabin Republicans were self-hating crazoids...
Until I visited this site: http://homocon.com/

I'm sure it's a favorite among the WH inner circle.... or should that be the WH closet, oft coyly referred to as the "big tent"? I have to admit I'm puzzled by any self-aware person's attraction to this brand of fanatical neo-conservatism, especially when the drum beat I hear comes from gays (and it would appear, disproportionately, gay males). Look how many of the most vile neocons are either gay or closet cases. Someone will have to explain this mindset to me, because I truly just don't get it.

1. FWIW, a lot of people will jump on the bandwagon just because
it's the way to advance a career.

Hell's bells. They've all been reincarnated on US soil just for OUR time! :argh: :grr:  :nuke:

3. If you're rich and like tax cuts ..
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 11:52 AM by Meeker Morgan
... it makes perfect sense, even if you're gay.

Don't ask, don't tell. Right.

(Yeah I know the 'pubs didn't originate DADT. So what? It's their deal now.)

7. But if you read what's on that site...
... it's a lot more than just liking your tax cuts. There's a lot of bigotry and warmongering, intolerance of other cultures and even the poor. Where the hell does all this xenophobic hatred come from? Are such people truly blind to the hypocrisy?

11. Yeah I know.
It's about how much rich gay folks are willing to sit still for.

I'm gay, not rich.

I see it.

It all goes on whether 'gay' or 'rich' is the primary affiliation.

4. Actually, I don't think all LCR's are "self-hating."
Folks like BoiFromTroy and the California LCRs were pretty instrumental in getting the gay marriage bill pending in California to clear the Senate committee.

13. But his argument falls apart when it comes to anti-gay Democrats
Lots of people will demand we vote for the Hillary Clintons or Joe Leibermans or Bill Clintons despite the fact they're anti-gay in several key areas as well.

Often, the most pro-gay candidates are the Green and Libertarian candidates, but if you vote for the former, you're supposedly voting for Bush, and if you vote for the latter, you're supposedly voting for "nuts."

So I'd accept his premise if he's also willing to describe people willing to support Democrats who don't support gay marriage as "self-loathing."

14. Gay anti-gay democrats?
Because that would be the only analogy which would truly be applicable. Gay republicans who support and vote for proactively anti-gay candidates are to some degree self-loathing. The LCR site is little more than a tribute to men of homophobic and misogynic bigotries, and their heroic worship of Reagan, the man who managed to set AIDS research back a good decade, is astounding in its clueless degree of self-loathing.

Please name me any Dem candidate who has made the promotion of anti-gay legislation part of his or her campaign platform as Bush has done. Conversely, is there enough space within this post to compile a list of GOP candidates who have buttered their political bread by publicly attacking gays and promoting legislation to outlaw our rights and benefits? You know very well the chasm of difference between the two.

As for the 2006 elections, any Dem who campaigns on a platform which includes the following will NOT be getting my vote: a repeal of Roe vs. Wade; a Constitutional Amendment defining marrage as that btween a man and woman only; continued support for the Iraq war.

And no, I do not support Libertarian views on a number of issues, including gun control, and the egomaniacal Ralph Nader has totally soured me on voting Green. The latter is perhaps unjustified, but there may be a lot of blank spaces on my ballot the next go 'round. Would I vote for an independent candidate for any office? Hell yeah, at this point I would. No more Republican Lite for me!

BTW, the Human Rights Campaign at http://www.hrc.org/ has a Congressional Scorecard for those of you who are interested in keeping track of how your representatives have or have not suppported the gay community.

...but just in case you haven't seen it, take a look:

Rick Santorum's Communications Director confirms to PageOneQ he is gay, stands behind Senator

8. Nothing in particular
I occasionally drop by the LCR website to see what they are saying about current events, and I was curious if any LCR apologists had anything to say about the Plame affair. There was a link on my sidebar to this other site, and I clicked just out of curiosity. Needless to say, I won't be back. Whoever runs that site is a freak of frightening proportions.

Yes, I knew about Santorum's Com Director, but he seems to be only the latest in a series of neocons who are either vile fanatics or work for those very politicans whose mission is to attack the gay community and any progress for our rights.

So it's a cumulative thing, I guess. Gannon, Santorum's aide, Mary Cheney et al ad infinitum. It's both discouraging and mind-boggling.

The Theocracy Is Coming!

As yet more evidence that the United States is now firmly trapped in the suffocating grip of a right-wing religious theocracy, the Logo channel debuts today -- a non-premium, basic cable-television channel which offers all day, all gay programming.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/arts/television/28logo.html

I'll have to check in with my local cable-tv politburo to see if they're carrying the evidence of my social-psycho-sexual oppression on their roster. If they dare to do so (in strict defiance of national party headquarters directive 865021), then, perhaps, I'll have time to rush home to my cold little gulag
http://www.homocon.com/archives/gulag_sweet_gulag.html

fluff up my one meager pillow on the thin cotton mattress I have spread across the concrete floor, rustle up some stale Triscuits and then work at seeing if I can bypass the 24-hour internal surveillance mode on my TiVo in order to set it to "record" -- this could get tricky, as at any moment the fascist Republican attack dogs could notice that the individual-gulag surveillance unit has gone offline and then, oh (*sob*) they might torture me again with rap music,
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/6/12/110234.shtml

while pushing me lightly and setting my air-conditioning to low! AAAIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot: I'm a Second Class Citizen!
http://www.republicoft.com/index.php/archives/2005/06/30/2749/

There, I think I got all the proper rhetoric down pat.
