Same sex couple, kids denied family rate at pool
POCATELLO - A same-sex couple and their three foster children were denied a reduced admission price to a pool in eastern Idaho because the Lava Hot Springs State Foundation says the five don't fit the definition of a family.

.... adopting foster children, and they still don't qualify as a family, by bigot standards.

Disgraceful.....

4. I went to school in the area
Its GOP Mormon hell - really it is. 90% of the people are LDS and never left the town they have been born in (Outside of going on missions).

we might come back in the summer, but as we are unmarried heterosexual couple, with a child, we might not fit their definition either; at any rate, they are up there on my vocal boycott list now! southern idaho is very mormon influenced, northern not as much, but there is a lot more southern!

they have other things going on their too!!

7. ok...? wtf. so if there is a couple with kids who aren't married, are they treated the same way?
Because my husband and I were together for ten years before we got married and we had a daughter. THis is ridiculous!! so they discriminate also against a single parent with kids? or what?

9. No family here....

Yup....that guy I sleep with and the 13 year old that lives with us and the 19 year old that visits on weekends from college are not family.

We eat together, I make sure they stay sharp in school.

The guy and I share expenses....lay together on the couch and watch movies, we make love some mornings. We have the same genitalia so there is NO WAY we can be a family in Wisconsin.

I make coffee and shower. He smokes and plays computer games and I sit with coffee and talk to him.

The 13 year old wakes and gets ready for school and walks to the bus stop. We make sure she has lunch money and does her homework.

We go an watch school concerts. We go to teacher conferences. We cook chicken on the grill on the patio.

She has friends over. We celebrate birthdays. We make rules. We laugh and cry together.

We care about each other. We all work together to make a safe comfy home.

We are not family...nope not at all...NO EFFING WAY...UH UH...only penis and vagina couples can be that.

We are animals that run together...not possibly a family.

10. Ok, so if that definition of a family is gospel, I trust that the good people
of Lava Hot Springs made sure to deny family rates to any and all single-parent "families" that tried to pull this same sort of unbiblical stunt, right?

Because a family is one man, one woman, and kids. Period. Same thing for those damned childless couples. Fuck them, those heathens.

Associated Press

POCATELLO - A same-sex couple and their three foster children were denied a reduced admission price to a pool in eastern Idaho because the Lava Hot Springs State Foundation says the five don't fit the definition of a family.

Amber Koger and Jeri Underwood say they and their three children were recently denied the resort's advertised family admission price.

Mark Lowe, executive director for the Lava Hot Springs State Foundation, says the state doesn't recognize gay or lesbian marriage and defines a family as one male, one female and children.

He says as a state agency the foundation must follow Idaho law.

But Monica Hopkins of the American Civil Liberties Union in Boise says state code defines marriage but has no universal definition of a family

12. Thats in the middle of the Mormon bible belt
No big surprise, allthough it is unfortunate. Most places that have a "family" rate usually have a disclaimer stating what a Family is. I work at a ski resort and you can buy a "family" seasons pass. A Family is defined (here at the ski resort, mind you) as 2 adults and up to 4 children under 18.
