A touching story in church yesterday
Sunday, we had our yearly baccalaureate service. Our students graduating from high school talked about what the universalist Unitarian church meant to them. One young woman talked about why she left the Catholic high school and went to the public high school instead. Rumors flew at the time that she did it so she could be an athletic star. She was a freshman at the local Catholic high school and her recently graduated brother had just come out. This young woman told her parents that she couldn't go to the Catholic school anymore because of the awful things they taught about homosexuality. She was heartbroken that her brother had to sit through the meanness when he was in high school. Because of her decision her parents also decided to look for a new church and that brought their family to the UU.

In this years UU middle school and high school Sunday classes have been using the UU OWL curriculum. OWL stands for our whole lives and is a comprehensive sex education program. I could only dream we could have such and honest and open class like this in our public schools.

2. My sister and her family belong to Unitarian Church.
They are very happy they switched. The minister, who is a woman, performed the ceremony when my niece was married.

5. I'm so glad her family supported her
and found a church home that taught true family values.
