What are your expectations/hopes for this administration?
There are a lot of posts this week talking about what President Obama has done or, more to the point, has not in his first 100 days in office. As an early Obama supporter in the primaries, I thought it'd be interesting to see where others come down on what they expect from the administration.

I think it goes without saying, I want full equality yesterday. But given political reality, the varying amounts of courage among the elected class, etc, there is always a so-called "practical" timeline for these things. When I gave my support to Obama here is what I thought/hoped would happen:

2009: ENDA, hate crimes, immigration changes

2010: DADT

2011-12: DOMA/federal recognition of marriages/unions

These are the standards I've been planning to hold this administration to. (If they're not met, no donations come 2012). Am I hoping for too much? Too little? Am I giving the administration too much slack? Too little?

How do you guys fall along these lines?

1. My expectations/hopes for this administration
None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Niente. Rien. Nichts. Nic. Wala.

My demands? In the words of Rev. Scott:

"We've come all this way, no thanks to you! We did it on our own, with no help from you! We didn't ask you to fight for us but damn it, don't fight against us!"

3. I understand you
Patience is the virtue I have the most difficulty with. In a fair world, patience would be an utterly superfluous virtue in the gay rights movement.

But here we are, and we must play this game at this time, and we must garner for ourselves the political advantages we are able, and this is where I think we are potentially going at this point in time.

Please, don't misunderstand me. Our equality is inherent, part of our God given rights, as a piece of natural law as anything else in this repulic is, as unapologetic as all the Bill or Rights combined.

My question is merely one of timeline. How do we go about this, what can we do, what can we expect to do, and how to do we steer things to our best direction.

I genuinely want to know how others see this being played out. This is how I imagined it will be played out under Obama from my early support of him. Anything less will be a disappointment, and I will not be silent or acquiescent in 2012 - possibly sooner. But this is where I am right now when discussing successes or failures.

5. If we let Obama do nothing on GLBT issues, he will not disapoint.
So I guess my answer is that my expectations are zero. The burden will be on activists to demand changes, sort of like ACT-UP.

7. My expectations fell to about zero during the Summer of 2007
So, while I am often disgusted and even enraged, I haven't been -- and won't be -- disappointed.

And, I believe some members of Congress get the nod for ENDA, not this Admin.

14. There Has Never Been Any Reason To Believe Obama Would In ANY Way Further the Causes of Gay People
I honestly cannot understand why anyone would expect anything like that from him...and I DEFINITELY don't understand why anyone would be "disappointed" in his inaction. He's been pretty fucking transparent on THESE issues.

Any positive steps taken over the next four years for GLBT people will be DESPITE Obama, not because of him.

15. I've never had any hopes or expectations for this administration
Despite all of the wonderful speeches and promises during the election period I expected to see absolutely nothing from this administration. So far I've seen exactly that--nothing good anyway--and I anticipate more of the same.

16. The same as they were before the election...
For Ms. Clinton and Mr. Obama. Nothing at all. And, I'm not surprised to say, they haven't disappointed me.
