"Heterosexual Day" to be recognized in Yellowknife, NWT
http://north.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=gay-pride-day-250252005

CBC News

YELLOWKNIFE – The city of Yellowknife will be celebrating Gay Pride Day on June 10 – and Heterosexual Day the day before.

A notice at Tuesday night's council meeting that the mayor was proclaiming Gay Pride Day was followed by news that Coun. Alan Woytuik had asked for an official Heterosexual Day on June 9. It has also been proclaimed.

Coun. Kevin O'Reilly called the move an embarrassment to the city, and a mockery of a legitimate request.

... "We thought every day was heterosexual day," said Don Babey of OutNorth, a group that represents Yellowknife gays and lesbians and that made the initial request for Gay Pride Day.

1. That's as ridiculous as
the people who say we need a "white history" month or a "mens history" month. The quote from the article: "'We thought every day was heterosexual day,' said Don Babey of OutNorth" pretty much sums it up.

IMHO people will try to silence anything that's opposed to them or destroy things that are different so i think Homophobia is the correct term for them. (sorry if there's any mistakes it's kinda late here in Hawaii.)

3. We already have a "Heterosexual Day." It's called "The Superbowl"
It's usually marked by some team getting their asses kicked by The New England Patriots, whose fans then riot in the streets and destroy property in celebration.

Very macho.

Like there is a party on June 10th and they are not invited? So they have their own party on the 9th? On some level I think they envy being able to celebrate Pride events.

5. Hey, I'm all for it.
If they feel that they are oppressed in society, and they need to demand for equal rights to gays, then they should march. Who knows, maybe they'll convince some closet straights to come out!

6. Diamonds are Yellowknife's best friend. Big diamond mine there!
These mines really harmed DeBeers monopoly.

Who knows, Yellowknife may be the next San Francisco.
