Vt. judge refuses to limit child visitation in lesbian custody case
http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/article/20090129/NEWS02/90129012/1007/RSS02

A Vermont judge has denied a Virginia woman’s latest attempt to deny visitation rights to her former lesbian partner.

On Wednesday, Family Court Judge William Cohen also warned Lisa Miller, of Winchester, Va., that her custody of the 6-year-old child could be in jeopardy if she continues to violate court orders.

Cohen also denied a bid by Janet Jenkins, of Fair Haven, for primary custody of the girl and ordered that she get five weeks of custody in the summer.

Miller gave birth to the girl in 2002, when the two women were joined in a civil union. They split in 2003, and the child has been at the center of a legal battle closely watched by national conservative and gay-rights groups.

:woohoo:

Congrats Ms. Jenkins!

1. See? They're just like straight ex-couples - squabbling over kids....
Oh well. I guess people really are just people.

A gay marriage should be no different than a heterosexual one, and a gay divorce obviously shouldn't be either. If they couldn't get along well enough to stay married, it's difficult to see them being able to do so for divorce. I hate that they have to say "former lesbian partner." This story plays out over and over in heterosexual divorce courts, and if we had the same rights as our heterosexual counterparts this would be less of an issue.
