Women confesses on deathbed she killed 2 women in '67 who taunted her about being gay
Edited on Sun Jan-25-09 04:33 PM by CurtEastPoint
Words cannot express how this makes me feel. This is so sad that someone feels pushed over the edge like she did and it does not excuse killing someone.

2. Does anything excuse the hate crimes against gays in the least 40 years?
But then again, one woman in several hundred million over 40 years does not a trend make.

5. My intent was (in case I missed) was to show how utterly sad this is...all the way around.
and no, she would have been executed.. back then and now also. There are no excuses for hate crimes against anyone.

7. What do you mean by "hate crimes against anyone"?
Edited on Sun Jan-25-09 05:01 PM by Zuiderelle
There weren't any hate crimes committed against her, so I can only presume you are saying that the murders she committed were hate crimes? If so, then that's ridiculous. Killing someone who hates you specifically is not the same as killing someone because of who they are generically, based on race or sexual orientation or religion or nationality. Neither is justifiable, but the first is not a hate crime, the second one is.

Do you agree?

3. Now
it is the right link.
This is a story about bullies, more than about lesbians or gays.

8. No, it does not excuse killing.
But she has had to live with it all these years, too.

9. "How do kids find out about anything? I mean, it was really unusual back then."
So much for gays can pass myth.

>>"I was just going to tell them that I couldn't work and one thing led to another."

She acknowledged that teasing "about my lifestyle" had gone on for a while.

Asked how the victims knew about it, she said, "How do kids find out about anything? I mean, it was really unusual back then."<<

11. 1. I'm not a nut. 2. It's not my job to justify anything.
I'm not gay myself, but as kind of a weak and introverted kid, everyone assumed I was. And their comments and actions were not exactly empathetic. I had no friends in the world including my own parents. If I was in a position to do so, I would have snuffed them all and not shed a single tear. It was a matter of survival, because being an outcast means one is already dead but no one had the decency to bury me. I regarded such people not as human beings, but as walking, talking sources of agony.

So, I'm in no position to either justify or condemn what this woman did.

12. IMO, it's very dangerous for society/authorities, churches to stigmatize any minority group, Yet,
Edited on Sun Jan-25-09 11:25 PM by closeupready
they continue to do so. Tons and tons of social science research over many years prove clearly that such stigmatization leads to mental illness, drugs abuse, alcoholism and other forms of dysfunctional behavior.

This woman was completely wrong to kill those two girls, though. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise, unless the argument is she was defending her life from them, but that is absolutely not what the article indicates - rather, it seems (from the article) that she DID intend to harm one or both prior to going there. That's first degree whatever, isn't it (meaning, maybe she wasn't going to actually kill them, but just shoot them, or maybe even brandish it as a warning)? So young, their lives hadn't even started yet. :(

Sad all around.

13. Yes, it's sad all around and no one was justifying this act.
I don't understand why it was part of the OP, as if, someone had said it was justified.

Talk about a straw man.

The OP could have simply said here is a tragic story about cruelty and murder and the first one in from forty years ago, involving gay retaliation that I have ever heard.

As I replied earlier, there is no justification for the far more common straight on gay crimes that we see posted here almost weekly.

14. True, and CLEARLY, straight on gay homophobic attacks happen FAR MORE than the other way around.
Agree 100%.

15. I do condemn it. It needs to be condemned.
If you can't see why, you need some counselling.
I'll bet that shooting those two girls had a negative effect on the shooters life.
I hope you have many meaningful friendships now.
Cheers
