Spanish bishops: Catholics cannot vote for homosexual “marriage”
Spanish bishops: Catholics cannot vote for homosexual “marriage”

Madrid, May. 09, 2005 (CNA) - The Bishops Conference of Spain published an official statement last week reminding Catholics that they are morally obliged not to vote in favor of an eventual law that will make homosexual unions equivalent to marriage, because it goes against reason and morality.

In an energetic statement from the Executive Committee of the conference, the bishops state that if the law were to be passed—it has already received the support of Spain’s House of Representatives—“it would lack in and of itself the character of true law, since it would be a contradiction of correct reason and the moral law,” its application would “not be binding upon anyone” and “each person could exercise the right to conscientious objection.”

The bishops state that it is their duty “to speak with clarity when Spain seeks to lead a regression in the development of society, with a legal measure that is without precedent and gravely damaging to the fundamental rights of marriage, the family, young people and teachers.”

The bishops underscored that “opposing immoral measures that go against reason is not to be against anyone, but rather to be in favor of love, truth and the wellbeing of each person.”

4. Yeah, what they say is damning enough...
... if you'll pardon the pun.

All this talk of "reason" and "society" -- why not just come out and admit it: "We hates them fags, too."

:puke:

2. conscientious objection
So, basically, any straight person who is devoutly religious and who objects to same sex marriage can wave a "conscientious objection" and what... not marry a person of the same sex? So basically, gay people can't force straight people to enter into homosexual marriages? I'll be sure to make a note of that.

And any gay person who doesn't believe in gay marriage can wave a "conscientious objection" and what... not get married when they didn't believe in it anyway? Uh-oh... big loss.

And if any employer chooses not to recognize the union of a couple, they will be facing a discrimination suite.

So, instead of letting people chose their own lives and live in peace, the RC now has to fan the flames of biggotry and encourage discrimination?

Every time I wonder why I haven't attended Mass in a while, I simply glance at the news and suddenly, I am reminded.

5. Yeah, strangely put.
Is it a call to clerks and minor officials to lose the paperwork?

Hey, government officials, if you can't do the government work in good conscience, quit. You can call it conscientous objection if you like.
