Swedish Supreme Court To Hear Anti-Gay Speech Case Involving Pastor

Sweden's Supreme Court said Monday it will review the acquittal of a Pentecostal pastor who denounced gays as "a deep cancer'' during a sermon at his church.

An appeals court in February threw out a hate crimes conviction against the minister, Rev. Ake Green, saying it was not illegal to offer a personal interpretation of the Bible and urge others to follow it.

Sweden's chief prosecutor appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, saying Green's comments amounted to hate speech.

I love it when "moderates" rush to defend views that say "gays should be burnt and shot" but run screaming from views that say the same things about blacks and Jews. They never seem to be in a rush to defend the KKK or National Front, do they? Why is that?

the Justices do just that - it was a key case that guaranteed our constitutional freedoms.

It is a very dangerous game to take this kind of power for ourselves and not expect that others will take it too. Where I live it is far more likely the majority of people would favor banning my speech in favor of gay rights than the other way around.

It is profoundly stupid, not to mention hypocritical, to advocate freedom for ourselves but wish to see others oppressed. In NC it is far more likely my speech would be banned than his if we didn't have a first amendment.
