MILK is fantastic!
We just saw it today.

I love it.

It was really cool because there are several guys portrayed in the film that I met during my time in SF.

1. Yes, I saw this last week. Excellent performances.
But a heavy film, not light and fun at all. Except in the beginning, I suppose.

2. We watched it and I cried (of course) as did my husband ..
and our friend Tina.

When we got out of the theater Tina said "They should have released this film before the vote on Prop 8".

I agree.

I also think that if Harvey were alive today we would have defeated Prop 8.

Look at Prop 6 in 1978. That fucking bitch Anita Bryant tried to march her fucking ass into California and spread her hate along with then State-Senator Briggs (my he rot in hell) and Harvey got people organized and defeated that shit. AND didn't shy away from using the dreaded "Gay" word as the No on 8 people did in 2008.

It pissed me off. I met and worked with people like Cleve Jones and Dick Pabich when I lived in SF and they walked the walk along with Harvey. Many times I got disgusted with the path gay politics went forward in SF. Prop 8 passing proved that we still are fighting the sames fights that Harvey help us fight.

Where are the "Harvey Milk's" of today?

I sure wish I knew.

4. Somehow they all turned into Harvey Milquetoasts. SPOILER
I loved the scene where Harvey was meeting with the Representative and rich guys and they had this flyer they were going to send out. He totally trashed it - threw it right into the fire. It didn't have the word "gay" on it.

Somehow, we've gotten lulled into that same crap by the same group that tried it the first time. There wasn't a Harvey to throw it in the fire.

7. By "they" do you mean "we"? There will always be a "they" like that.

5. when they showed the clips of her
That fucking bitch Anita Bryant tried to march her fucking ass into California and spread her hate along with...

I could feel words similar to yours flying against my teeth. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut.

I was surprised at how visceral my reaction was to her.

I am so sick of these people. Just so sick of the Anita Bryants and the Sarah Palins and the James Dobsons and on and on.

8. When I went to see Milk last week, the whole audience moaned when she was first shown.
She was not well received.

3. I'm Glad you enjoyed it Ronny
I, too, wondered where our modern day Harvey is going to come from.

And I was shocked how much of the same battle/language/etc we are still fighting. Those Religious nuts just don't want to acknowledge any truths do they?

I'm looking forward to the DVD coming out.
