New Immigration Law Could Harm Gay Asylum Seekers

Legislation to tighten up controls on illegal immigration could have a devastating effect on LGBT asylum seekers am immigration advocacy group warned Thursday.

The legislation is known as the Real ID Act and President Bush has signaled he will sign it - possibly as early as this week.

It would require applicants for state-issued driver's licenses - roughly 70 million people a year - to produce four types of identification at motor vehicle offices.
