A tale of two threads
There's currently two ongoing threads in GDP about the Warren selection.

One has multiple deleted messages and subthreads and can be read as hostile toward the GLBT reaction. The flipside thread (which was mostly well received) against this thread has received only half of the recommendations as the aforementioned thread.

I'd like to frame that (those 2 threads) on DU. It's similar to the competing gay vs. interracial marriage polls done recently.

1. Are you talking about my flipside thread?

"Despite the best efforts of SOME DUers, yada yada..."

I could have put a lot more effort into replicating the original post, but I didn't want to draw too much attention to the division at DU. I really wish people could have taken my other Warren post more seriously:

DU really should be able to come together over the Waren controversy, especially where it relates to broader issues.

4. The thread I'm talking about is currently No. 2 on the greatest list...

the thread I wish had received the same attention is the one I linked to.

5. Ah
I was confused there. I already rec'ed the #2 one.

The other thread got me mulling it over during errand running on Sunday so when I got back I sat down and penned that.

:D

Anyway, the phenomenon of the progress of those 2 threads is interesting. Do you think it an issue with timing?

11. I think it's just a timing issue.
In another 20-30 years, the posts unequivocally supporting equal rights would probably fare better.

20-30 years is way too long to wait. I'm hoping in a few decades we're all standing around saying "Wasn't it horrible when there were groups of citizens who were denied basic rights in the USA?"

16. i know i sound reductionist but I see it as more of a backlash
towards our incessant criticism of Obama for the Warren thing. To people who don't see our issues as a priority we are raining on their post-election parade. I believe this is a good part of the backlash though it seems a simplistic explanation. :hi:

20. That's probably true.
Well, at least the pre-emptive "Why I could care less about this issue..." threads seem to have trickled way down. Progress? Of a sort?

18. The latest thread I find really offensive is the one...
Edited on Mon Dec-29-08 09:59 PM by AntiFascist

about how we should be "thanking Obama for the Warren invocation", which goes into further detail about how brilliant he was at the Warren debate.

no matter how they try to frame it, there is no reason whatsoever to thank Obama for his performance at the Saddleback debate. This could very well be the main reason that Prop 8 succeeded, despite polling that indicated otherwise.

I am not thrilled to see the argument that we should be thankful to abusive people or actions because it allows us to rise up against them.
