Phelps Klan Protests At Ousted Baptist University

Averett University Saturday conducted its first commencement since being dropped by Southern Baptists in a dispute over gays.

"We're going to be an independent flagship Christian university," Averett President Richard Pfau told graduating students and their families. "We're going to be a community of tolerance."

The Baptist General Association of Virginia ended its 145 year affiliation with Averett in April. (story)
