I can't believe the arrogance of some people, and the total inability to empathize on any level with the anger of people who are fighting for their rights.

4. What's the use?
I just wrote a reply to that OP, but, you know, it won't make one bit of difference. Some people just need to wave their strange ways in the air like a great big flag. What the point of that post was, I do not know save that there was a need to vent. If that's the case, it suggests something terrible. That part, I don't need to think about.

I really thought DU was better than that.

6. It's not that they don't agree with us, but they don't believe we have the right to want equality
much less actually get it.

7. Yanno, Joeybee....
I do believe you have the issue in a nutshell. This is the way I read all this condescending bullshit. The fundies are smug and condescending too...just check out the readback with that gay marriage issue of Newsweek.

8. i have spent the past 3 days arguing with people about gay marriage and as
a straight person i will never fully understand what you're all going through but i am aggravated beyond words right now and you all have my total empathy, sympathy and whatever else and full support.

it's stunning that posters here think "extending rights" to you via civil unions is fine and dandy, letting you be 3/4 of a person is okay and just spiffy.

10. NO ONE (I Think) Has Claimed....

that marriage equality is the most important issue in the country, even for the LGBT community. But it's a damned important one and I, for one, am tired of people trivialising our concerns in the face of Prop Hate and Obama's extremely insensitive choice of Rick Warren to do the Invocation at the Inauguration.

It seems as if anytime anything that happens to get the LGBT community upset (and 99% of the time the anger and concern are spot-on, IMO), the bigots and homophobes tell us to STFU and "get over it". Usually they condescend to tell us what we should be concerned with...and most of the time LGBT concerns don't make a blip on the radar.

This is why our straight allies are all the more precious. At least there ARE decent people out there. I have even banged into conservative straights who just don't "get" this nonsense of same-sex marriage being a threat to straight marriage. Like my uncle remarked a few months ago, "I'm still happily married after fifty years (go uncle and aunt!). Gay marriage is no threat to my marriage. It doesn't impact me in the least and I'm all for it." So to our straight allies I say "Thank you" and :grouphug:

To the rest of the bigots who cannot empathise with us, well, your humanity quotient is disappointingly low. You are sad, incomplete human beings when you cannot not feel empathy at another's loss. But then, we've never been welcome to do much more than to vote and donate. Unfortunately for the Democratic Party, the days of automatic votes and automatic donations to Democratic causes may be coming to an end. Oh, many of us may still vote Democratic, and will probably still donate to Democratic causes, but they will likely think long and hard before they do so.

they bring up other issues as way more important and say we have limited resources to deal with all of these issues.

It wouldn't cost much, if anything just to allow just to allow us to have equal rights. It's not like they need to create a whole new entire department of government to legalize gay marriage.

Duh?

We would pay the same thing for marriage certificates as straight people using the same offices in the same court buildings that the straight people use to go get marriage certificates. Allowing us to get married, thus paying for said marriage certificates, would bring in more revenue to pay to help out on the other issues that require money to get moving in the right direction.

The phrase "Cutting their noses off to spite their faces" is coming to mind over and over again when I hear that tired old, "but you are just going to have to wait because we need money/resources to work on these more important issues that require money to solve the problem.

A gay person's money is just as green as any straight person's money. We use the same money. :wtf:

Duh? By being so short sighted and condescending toward us OUT OF HABIT, they are missing out on what would be a golden opportunity to raise revenue in every hamlet, town, city, boonies, and parish in this country. Instead of a gold rush, it would be a marriage rush across the country. That's moolah, people! In a time when the country has been bankrupted, that marriage rush would generate revenue that would help on all the other issues.

And I haven't even gone into how much more the insurance companies could make if we were treated equal. How many children sit un-adopted, because our government considers us too perverted to adopt and love a kid?

The possibilities for real change and real hope and real help in this country that would all come from simply treating us equal, not separate, but equal, are limitless.

But noooooo, OUT OF HABIT they tell us to sit down, STFU, get over it, wait, quit being so damn selfish.

Duh.... :eyes:

Yes, it is like banging your head against a brick wall after you've already broken your skull on the last brick wall and the next brick wall is even thicker. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
