"I like gays, I just oppose gay marriage."
So say the religious right -- the anti-gay amendments aren't designed to deny gays any rights, just "preserve marriage."

So how come the religious right is working to force the Michigan government to keep gays off state health care benefits if their partner's a state employee?

Why are Kansas groups preparing to sue Sprint and other private sector Kansas employers to use the DOMA amendment to drop DP benefits for private sector employees?

It's all about hate, folks. They want you and me to die in a hospital with no medical care and no access to our families. They want us to not get treatment because of some doctor's "moral objections" to who we are. They want us to not serve in public life or have any employment, housing or even enjoy a dinner in a restaurant free of harrassment.

"We like gay people," my ass.

10. Uuuummm, I wonder . . .
.
Uuuummm, I wonder . . . is it something like:

1.) Wow, I love blacks but they don't need civil rights, or

2.) Hey, women are terrif but I don't think equal rights are for them, or

3.) No way should folks w/ green eyes be allowed the rights and privileges u/ our constitution.

Hey, as it's stated: gays are okay but they sure don't *need* civil rights equal with other Americans! No way!

7. I had not heard
that they are planning on suing these companies in Kansas. This all is happening so quickly that nobody sees it coming until it is a done deal. How can they possibly sue a corporation these days for this?

11. How to sue? Simple.
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 11:40 PM by TaleWgnDg
.
How to sue? Simple. For example, if a State has adopted DoMA (Defense of Marriage Act which states that marriage is for one man and one woman, only), then why should a company in that state grant "married-type" benefits to non-marrieds, i.e., GLBTs? Think about it. It's legally arguable. And, if it reduces expenses for these companies, why shouldn't they try to rid themselves of "married-type" benefits if they *feel* they can get away w/ it?

edited to add: Oh, we saw it coming. Lawyers, that is. As did those hired by the opposition, e.g., "christian" fundamentalists, corporate whores, etc. . . it WAS PLANNED. That's what this coalition is all about: the corporate whores using the "christian" fundies and vice versa!!

8. Why is there such a thing as "Gay" Marriage?
Where is marriage defined in the Constitution? Where is marriage between two people of the same sex banned in the constitution? Marriage is the bond between two people who love each other. Fuck a bunch of hate filled bible thumping zealots who say they are being persecuted because they can't force their religion on the rest of us. Oppose em at every turn.

And why the fuck do so called liberal politicians oppose "gay" marriage but are for civil unions? Horseshit.

12. My cousin wanted to see NYC last fall
So she asked if she could come up and sleep on my couch. WHen I met her at Penn Station I wondered if my mother had clued her into the fact that live my girlfriend. I didn't have to wonder long, on the bus ride up town she told me she "didn't approve" of my life style. Me - always the consiliatory peace maker said - well, you must be somewhat opened minded cause you're here.

Part of me really wanted to say - I don't approve of your lifestyle and gotten the hell off the bus.

"approve" of. I've never been very conciliatory myself. That would have been the last time I would have spoken with that cousin. How dare ANYONE approve or not approve of YOUR life?

14. Well, it's pretty much my intention to avoid her from here on out
We'll have to deal with each other though as both our mothers, the last two remaining sisters of 8 kids, get older.

The really funny thing is she had to go stand outside the Today show window, and the sign she held up saying - "Texas loves Al Roker" was made by my girlfriend.

17. This is exactly right!
These people don't want us to play softball, have a decent job, be able to procure housing, or exist outside of a closet where they can pretend we are "spinsters" and permanent "bachelors."

I keep wondering when some gay group will get clever enough to start advertising a reparative therapy clinic to help fundies with their "unwanted" religious doctrine and help them move toward a more fulfilling life without hate.

18. Since they think this is a 'choice', they want to make it as unattractive
as possible, that way less people (and especially their kids Gawd Forbid!) will 'choose' to be gay.

And in the meantime, it fills their plates and coffers with great wealth to convince everyone they can that us queers are going to snatch their babies and make them 'choose' to be gay.
