Jerry Brown: Gay-marriage ban should be invalidated
Here's some great news!

In a surprise move, state Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown asked the California Supreme Court on Friday to invalidate Proposition 8. He said the November ballot measure that banned gay marriage "deprives people of the right to marry, an aspect of liberty that the Supreme Court has concluded is guaranteed by the California Constitution."

1. Ha! Way to Go, Jerry!
This may change things. It reinforces the argument that a referendum with just a simple majority can't change fundamental parts of the CA Constitution.

It's good to have the AG's office on that side of the argument!

2. Excellent ! He provides a great and concise reason as well...

"Proposition 8 must be invalidated because the amendment process cannot be used to extinguish fundamental constitutional rights without compelling justification,"

3. Ace up the sleeve
It always helps when the attorney for the other side decides to fold. Guess the Prop. 8 backers forgot about that one.

6. This Brown Delegate in 1992 in NYC is as proud of Jerry today as I have been since the 1970's.
No one ever gets away with a crack against Jerry with me. Never.

I love this brave man.

7. Remember when the press used to pick on him?
He was once in the seminary -
When they didn't seehim with a woman on his arm they said he must be gay-
Then when he dated Linda Rhonstadt they said he was "living in sin" !
I saw him speak one time and he said "come on guys I got some catching up to do" Yeah I love him too ! ! !

15. In 1980, I think, a pie was thrown in his face after an address at the Cooper Union.
My alma matter in NYC, I was a big fan of Jerry then, and now. So big, in fact that I kept the hankie he used to wipe off the gook.

I've since lost it, but I have an almost photographic image in my memory of the jerk who threw it.

Reddish hair and beard, a big guy. Fucker.

So I did a little web search and viola, Aron Kay, resident of Brooklyn.

Happy Holidays!

8. Beautiful development!
I guess it's still going to be a struggle to fight this stupid amendment, but it's wonderful to get a surprise like this on the same day the haters try to invalidate 18,000 marriages.

12. Final nail, meet coffin
I don't think that a full rework of the Constitution of CA is going to happen. Haters had their last victory on that matter in CA, I think.
