Minor help in declaring my minor?
I am a magazine journalism major, and currently working on my bachelor's degree. It's a perfect fit, and already all set up. So, I really don't need responses telling me how poor my job market is, and/or how limited the opportunities are.

I know most employers don't pay much attention to minors, and they're really not a big deal. However, I am being asked to declare mine before Thanksgiving, and i'm a bit stuck.

Some people may say this is a fair amount of information to process, but I would greatly appreciate any sort of feedback!

Political Science: The program claims there's a lot of overlap, and that it prepares one for a career in Journalism. I am worried that the subject may bore me. I am not overly bored by politics, though they don't exactly excite me either.

Anthropology: I have to focus on either Biological/Physical, Social/Cultural, Theoretical, or Applied Anthropology. Depending on what I sign up for, this could end up being relevant, yet that's mostly speculation.

English and Textual Studies: My English 104 teacher told me I ought to consider studying literature professionally. It seems as if it would probably be helpful, as reading and writing go hand in hand.

Fine Arts: I adored Art History; except I fear that this is one of those fluffy subjects, which really isn't going to do much for me. Hence, I would be taking this purely for my own enjoyment.

Philosophy: This bears a similar problem to Art History, only it might be a bit more beneficial, because it could help build argumentative, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

1. K&R for input...... I would guess Biological/Phsical area of study would
give you an edge. Let us know what you decide....

2. Tough call. I've been a professional journalist all my adult
life, pretty much. Political Science might make a good choice, since there's never a shortage of topics in that field to write about.

The rest wouldn't be my choices, but that's me. Follow your heart. That's my suggestion.

I was just an English major, but I ended up writing in a number of different specialty areas, so it's more important to be able to brief yourself quickly than choosing a particular minor. You never know what you'll end up specializing in or being force to specialize in.

In the long term, it probably won't matter much. Choose a minor that will challenge you and force you to learn things quickly. That will help you more than anything else.

BTW, it's a great career, if not a lucrative one.

3. why not straight up Art History?
if you 'adored' it, take it. this is the last time in your life you will have the time and resources to study something simply for the pure enjoyment of studying it. go fot it. no one, and I mean no one, gives a crap what your minor was, or even your major, unless it is technical in nature.

4. Why does it matter?
You have already decided that making money doesn't matter to you. What are DU'ers supposed to tell you that you don't need to figure out for yourself?

Philosophy, Fine arts, Anthropology... Who paid for your classes?
