Arne says he wants more black teachers, that's why he fired so many.

A recent report out of New Orleans claims that that Ed Secretary Arne Duncan wants more black teachers in our schools. According to nola.com, it's become a "theme" for Duncan this year...

Perhaps Mr. Duncan should look in his own back yard. During his time as CEO of Chicago Public Schools, Duncan oversaw the loss of nearly 2500 African-American teachers, while the numbers of CPS teachers in all other racial groups increased. Take a look at this chart from 2009.

The situation Duncan created became so egregious that a local teacher caucus filed a federal discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which will decide any day now if they will send the case to the Justice Department for prosecution.

Percent Black v. White teachers in Chicago Public Schools:

2000 (Year before Arne started)

40.6 v. 45.4

2008 (Year Arne he left)

38.6 v. 48.7

heckuva job, arne!

But don't worry. As the charter school proponents here at DU tell us, inner-city public school teachers are all from "the bottom third of their class," that's the only place they could get hired because they're so stupid.

They need to be replaced by 23-year old teach-for-a-resume trust funders from the ivy league -- all those smart white folks who know how to run things.

1. I was in the bottom third of my class?
Who made that claim??

For the record, I graduated with a 3.9. And I've been an urban public school teacher for 30 years.

3. I'm okay
Was going to call in yesterday. But decided to suck it up and go to school. Glad I did. One of my kids is in crisis. Helping with that was the best therapy:)

Just saw Arne on Morning Schmoe and that got my juices flowing so I feel another great day coming on!

Need to investigate this education bill that has been attached to war funding. Yuck. Hopefully I'll have time to do that tonight. My email inbox is overflowing. Damn. Hope this isn't as bad as it looks.

4. How on Earth did this man get this job?
The president must have one heck of a skeleton in his closet... or maybe Arne saved him from drowning as a child?

8. Were the fired teachers competent or not?
Or less qualified than those kept?

Or was there another valid reason they were let go? Many places operate under last-hired/first-fired rules.

But feel free to automatically insinuate racism.

9. There was no valid reason except they cost too much money
It just so happens many teachers in NOLA at the time were black.
