Plain Dealer Columnist

...If you listen only to those who scream the loudest, you might think that most Americans of faith believe abortion is a sin against God. It's a common misperception, and one that deeply troubles the Rev. Dr. Carlton Veazey, who heads the Washington, D.C.-based Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice and founded its Black Church Initiative.

"The majority of religious people in this country support choice, but you wouldn't know it by the noise and ink in the media from the other side," says the 69-year-old Baptist minister. "People tend to identify religious people with anti-choice, but that is the opposite of reality."

Polling last summer by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life revealed that while a majority of Americans want more restrictions on abortion, they overwhelmingly want to keep it legal. Even among evangelicals who were polled, fewer than half favored overturning Roe v. Wade. Only 15 percent said abortion should be eliminated...

"I was raised by my father, who was also a minister, to believe in the moral agency of individuals, that they had a right to make moral choices. Choice is a God-given right. To have a child can be a sacred choice. By the same token, to not have a child can be a sacred choice....

1. Yes, this is true. We're Catholic and are pro-choice, as is my family.
Unfortunately, we are drowned out by the schreeching of the wingernuts who proclaim to speak for millions of people... but who really only speak for themselves and their nutbag followers.

2. Pro-Choice Candidate in Arkansas NEEDS Support!
I have been a strong advocate, and the only one in my race who promises to
defend a woman's right to choose. But to win, I need support, small donations
from progressives all across the nation!

I am the first openly gay candidate to run statewide in my homestate of
Arkansas. We have a chance in Arkansas to make history! But to do so, I
need your help! I have been working to put myself in a position to win
the Lt. Governor's office.

During the NCCM conference last year, I heeded the call of my former boss,
the General (Wes Clark) and decided to run for Lt. Governor to provide my
state with a progressive voice of common sense in the Democratic Party
rather than being Republican-lite.

You can see my economic plan at my website. I have focused on many issues
besides GLBT Issues and they have placed me in a winnable position.

My website is http://www.DrewPritt.com

Initially I had hoped groups like Victory Fund would be supportive. They
have not, because they focus on incumbents or candidates with large war
chests. Yet in a crowded primary field and hard work, I have worked myself
to a position where I can win. I cannot invest another dime of my money
though in this campaign. I need to raise money.

From late March to April 4th is the filing for office. To get on the
ballot in Arkansas, I need to raise $7500. I need to find 75 people to
donate $100 then I can get my name on the ballot easily. In addition, I
need to raise between $50,000 - $100,000 for television.

What I am asking is will you help me? What I need and ask is this :

1.) Donate $100 to help me get on the ballot?

2.) Help me raise the $7500? I am sure you might have some friends and I
am asking in all sincerity.

3.) After that, if you can help me raise the television money, I am so
appreciative.

You can donate online at : http://www.drewpritt.com/Contribute.htm

This is not the easiest thing to do, asking others to invest money in me.
Especially people who do not know me. Thats why I have really waited till
now to start raising money and invested the initial amount from my own
pocket.

Check out my new website at http://www.DrewPritt.com/ or
http://www.PromotingPritt.com/

One other thing is a film that is being made about me. You can read about
it at http://www.CitizenPritt.com/

Get back to me as soon as you can.

Thank you for your time!
