Pharmacists sue over Birth Control Policy
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/BIRTH_CONTROL_PHARMACISTS?SITE=JRC&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Four pharmacists who refused to sign a pledge promising to dispense the morning-after birth-control pill sued Walgreen drug stores Friday, alleging they were illegally fired.

The lawsuits accuse Walgreen Co. of violating the Illinois Health Care Right of Conscience Act. The pharmacists were being represented by the American Center for Law and Justice, a public-interest group founded by evangelist Pat Robertson.

<snip>

You know what? If you want to inject YOUR religion and "values" into your job, then you're going to have to find a Christian pharmacy to work at (or own your own).

Jesus, these people have a tremendous set of balls, don't they (and apparently are lacking in the brains department as well).

2. Refusing to do your job? You deserve to be fired.
I'd like to see any court to try to reverse THAT.

Walgreens not asking the pharmacists to do anything dangerous, illegal, or harmful to patients.

IF any court would rule in favor of this, the floodgates would be officially opened.

3. I always say that I'm a vegetarian...

When I was a waitress, I guess I should have been able to refuse to serve patrons who ordered meat. And then when I got fired for NOT DOING MY JOB, I guess I could have sued. Or, maybe I could have just refused to serve patrons who ordered meat but not dairy products. Or maybe just veal, since veal calves endure (arguably) the most abuse. I'm sure this rather robust gentleman would have a shittin' fit if I refused to serve him a filet that he ordered while out to dinner, but by his logic, I'm free to not serve anyone who orders something I am morally against.

Wonder if he also refused to hand out Viagra. :eyes:

I'd just like to know what makes them think they have a "right" to inject their religion and "values" into their job? Last I checked, pharmacists were NOT physicians, and if a physician writes a prescription for a patient they have no right to decide if it is right or wrong. If they want to make moral judgments about other people free of repercussions, then they're free to start their own pharmacy or go work for a Christian pharmacy.

8. The Muslims who own my favorite restaurant
in town serve alcohol. I've never once been refused service when our group orders a bottle of wine with our meals. In fact, they've often suggested that we try new wine offerings they add to the menu. They have very good taste and their suggestions have been excellent AND affordable.

Why can't religious pharmacists afford women the same courtesy?

Unfortunately I think we all know the reason. Because these fanatics don't believe women deserve the same courtesy.

4. It appears to me...
that another trade is in their futures!

How far can this go?! What happens if a person that has a certain religion that belives pain is necessary to purge the body of unclean thoughts is permitted to NOT sell pain medication to someone that desperately needs it? :wtf:

5. That has happened too
but isn't getting as much press. Some of these pharmacists are also refusing to dispense pain and mood stabilizer meds because it is against their religion.

7. Schedule II narcotics
If a pharmacist has a reason to believe that someone who presents a prescription for a schedule II drug is doing so to get high or to sell on the street, they have a duty to report it to the police.

This is for controlled substances only. Last time I checked, no one ever got high on or addicted to or knocked over a pharmacy for birth control pills.

9. They are citing RELIGIOUS reasons
not questioning whether that particular person has a valid script. I suppose they feel if you have just had say, MAJOR SURGERY, you are supposed to PRAY TO GOD for your PAIN to go away? Or in the case of my BiPolar daughter, she should also just PRAY when she either wants to charge up $1,000 of CD's, or slit her wrists, or slit her SISTER'S throat?????

Yes, I agree that these birth control pills MUST be dispensed (FIRE them for not doing their JOBS, CVS), but when you start denying mood stabilizers, you are REALLY threading on dangerous grounds. You are then also putting OTHER PEOPLE at risk of being killed because of your STUPID RELIGIOUS views.

Sorry, but I have a personal stake in this aspect, as well as the other. Besides living with a BiPolar daughter, I also work in the Mental Health Field. I would not want to be placed in that situation DAILY with some of these people if they did not have access to their meds.
