2. If not there should be an investigation

Going undefeated is tough, no matter what level one plays at. Illinois lost a road game by one point on what was basically a miracle. So yes, they should still be a unanimous no. 1. But alas, the east coast ACC loving media will probably vote North Carolina or Kentucky or Kansas #1. If it sounds like I mistrust the media, it's because I do, including the sports media.

4. True, there really is a pro-ACC bias...but I still can't see how they
can't vote for Illinois as number one...no one even comes close to having as good a record.

8. They certainly CAN'T, but will they?
I wonder if today's poll doesn't include today's games? Not sure how early on Sunday the poll comes out--if it's late enough to include some of Sunday's games.

9. all the sports people i've seen
are still putting illinois at number 1. but they don't matter; it's the committee. 29-1 is still by far the best record, and ohio state played better today than they have all season

10. Hey, I think I'll go find some polls right now!
I'm willing to bet that the poll today won't reflect Illinois' loss.

5. Illinois will still be number 1 - especially now
Kansas lost and Kentucky lost.

6. Not unanimously
There's got to be at least one or two voters who've been waiting for an excuse.

12. The most accurate #1 vote was early last fall: Wake Forest
I realize no one will agree with this, but IMO results mean nothing in regard to who is #1 at this time of year. Zero. Squat. Nada.

I bet sports for a living and rely solely on preseason ratings in regard to college basketball, specifically a combination of the ratings put out by the Sporting News and Blue Ribbon publications. Those rankings are reality, based on talent. Then these mindless teams scatter for a few months and camouflage their true abilities by playing in diverse conferences, garbage games.

Once the NCAA tourney begins, reality restores. The higher rated team from my consensus preseason ratings wins more than 70% of the time WHEN IT IS THE UNDERDOG. It holds up in the NIT also. In other words, the media screams upset but it's really nothing more than the disguised superior team winning as it should.

The Sporting News has a phenomenal record in isolating the #1 team. Until a couple of years ago they had a streak of identifying the national champion almost every time, including the so-called upset of Connecticut over Duke in the final. This year their #1 is Wake Forest. Illinois is #10. Go ahead, try to make that reverse in the postseason. I don't like your chances. Yeah, I know, Illinois blasted Wake. One of those garbage games.

14. Illini definitely still deserve #1
great season and now that they have a loss out of the way i'm more worried about them in the tourney. i just hope my jayhawks can hold on until the final 4 and get a chance to play them.
