Poll question: Was it wrong for Obama to make the Special Olympics bowling reference?
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 12:10 AM by cboy4
I can't lie.

I thought it was hilarious, because he used it to mock himself and his horrible bowling score .. not to make fun of the retarded (a joke!) special kids.

On edit...Having said all of that, I don't think he should continue with the reference .. considering his current position. But I wasn't offended at all.

1. The way he bowls is gay.
Hey, it's just jokes, right?

3. That joke doesn't make sense? Gay people are bad bowlers
or something?

2. I think it would have been more outrageous for him to have called
bowling a real sport.

HA

4. No. The outrage over it is so idiotic I want to vomit.
I didn't see it as anything but a bit of self deprecating humor. It insulted no one, was not politically incorrect or off-color, not a gaffe or any of that horseshit. It's much ado about nothing. People really need to get a grip.

19. ..
I would not be surprised by the DWB. From my observations down here, if you are not white, you don't get pulled over.

beat Obama in!

8. Sure, it was wrong
Does it warrant topic-du-jour status for GD? I don't think so, but if people want to do that, it's easy to ignore them.

9. This sure has popped up all over the place today...
I don't think it was the best reference, because Special Olympians can bowl rings around him. ;)

Perhaps he could compare himself to Seniors... no... they're better tham him also.

Or the blind..... nope! One of the guys on my bowling team is blind, and he's way better than the President!

Actually, nothing really compares to the badness that is Presidential bowling.

Well, at least when related to bowling... ain't that right, chimpy?

10. What's wrong is that a President was trying to be a comedian.
Leave it to the pros, otherwise it'll bite you in the butt. Admit you need more practice and move on.

11. The fact that he behaves like a human being with faults
actually gives me more confidence he understands and empathizes with real life problems and issues that affect the average person.

I was a fierce Obama critic during the primaries and I've really started warming up to him .. particularly his humility and normal person behavior .. ie, the NCAA brackets.

And BTW, that's a joke the pros would make. If anything, you would be arguing he needs to act less like a pro and be politically correct .. something that does not exist in an overwhelming percentage of stand-up.

14. It was wrong, wrong, wrong! Anyone in the public eye who had said that
should be reprimanded. No, it's not the end of the world, but I'm willing to bet those of you who said it wasn't wrong would have been crying foul had anyone else said it.

22. It's a mistake, but not an awful one.
Sometimes we say things and just go, "Ooh. Probably shouldn't have said that."

It's just that none of us happens to be the President.

23. My thought was "why give the right any fodder?"
Yes, it was a pretty tasteless joke and as the President he should not say something that may offend a segment of the population.

Yes, he is human and many people make stupid jokes.

However, as I said, why give fodder to the Hannity crowd?

At least he apologized real fast, but I am sure the right will keep it alive a long time.

24. Went With Other
i think it's fine, BUT he's the president. So, it's going to create a stir and is better left unsaid. However, now that it's said, and the humor was self directed, i think it's much ado about nothing. So, he shouldn't have said it, but it certainly isn't a horrible thing anyway.

I think I can honestly say that I wouldn't have even criticized Shrub on the same slip up. Of course, he has so many worse ones this one would have been lost in the forest.
