Why do foreigners think football is boring and soccer is exciting
I don't get it, its an enigma that has always evaded me. Soccer is so boring and nothing ever happens, while football is the most exciting sport ever invented. Yet show a foreigner some boring soccer game and they get excited, show them a Cowboys-Patriots game and they act bored. Why, it makes no sense that someone would consider a sport in which you just run around kicking a ball to be more exciting than the awesome hits of the NFL.

1. I'd get bored at a Pats-Cowboys game, too
once the Pats got ahead by, say, 31-0 in the third quarter. :P

3. Huh? I didn't see any Bay Area teams mentioned.
The Cowpies, like faux Texan Boosh, are uniters, not dividers -- no one can stand them! :P

6. Talking about cboy and what he considers "real sports"
The only way he can get anyone to agree with him, is to create sockpuppets!!

some of us enjoy both versions of the game. Sure I like the NFL but I also enjoy the EPL and the Champions League.

Sounds to me like you don't know what you're talking about

10. Football's all right
but everybody knows the most exciting team sport is hockey. Even if the total shit ref calls a phantom penalty against your team which ends up costing them the game after working their asses off for a brilliant comeback from three goals down and the asshole ref doesn't call any number of penalties he could have against the other team....it's still way more exciting than football (which is really soccer).

11. The soccer fans I talk to say there is too much standing around in "Gridiron".
Play goes for a few seconds and then a minute of standing around, over and over. All the TV timeouts. They say that because of the continuous play and incredible endurance needed to run up and down the pitch all day, soccer is better. It's more elegant and strategic is what I'm told. I don't see it myself but that's what they say.

I don't hate soccer though, I'll watch the World Cup Final, I'll watch the Olympic Gold Medal match. I'll keep an eye on the U.S. and Germany in those tournaments. I don't mind watching the best players in the world. But I'll probably never go watch our new MLS team. The game itself in general is quite boring when played on a lesser scale. It's like a QB throwing a Hail Mary on every single play in football and the ball being intercepted 98% of the time. Then the same thing on the other side. And on the times it does work you still probably will not score. I think it's because soccer is so lethargic that the great crowd chants and other "extracurriculars" exist at matches around the world.

North American fans are different. We like our action fast and brutal. Whether it's the "Doomsday Defense", "Murderer's Row", "Broad Street Bullies" or the "Bad Boys" we like our sports to have a violent edge. The harder the hit, the more we love it. There is the "chess match" element to all the major North American sports to go along with the physicality that soccer is missing.

Sports like Hurling, Rugby and Aussie Rules Football deserve far more respect than soccer gets.

15. Not funny
Hurling is a great sport. The national sport of Ireland. It takes quite a bit of skill to play well.

18. No, jackass, it's not a vomiting contest.
Hurling combines elements of hockey, lacrosse, soccer and even baseball.

It's quite brutal and worth checking out if you can find it.

21. No, but you sure appear to be.
Unless, of course, you were making a feeble attempt at humor. Which failed utterly.

22. It's either standing around
or flopping on the ground. The only soccer that doesn't suck is indoor soccer.

14. Foreigners?
I think American football is boring as hell and I'm from the US.

Give me a good rugby match anyday. Even soccer (football to most of the world) is better than American football.

16. To really enjoy football, you have to understand it
Since it's probably the most complex major sport, it's understandable that those that don't understand it don't appreciate it.
