I Want Revenge wins Gotham in a gallop.
Won by many. Imperial Council came flying from dead last to be second
Mr. Fantasy third
Masala fourth.

Jeff Mullins brought the horse here from CA to see if he would run
as well on the dirt as on the polytrack.

I would say he handled it OK.

1. Super impressive race
It may flatter the West Coast horses. Nice to see him improve in form going East to the dirt. I wonder if Mullins will aim IWR at the Wood Memorial. I would if I were him. Imperial Council ran a nice one to land the place spot; he should improve next out, I bet, as the distance lengthens.

4. I believe he is pointing him for the Wood.

There was a quote from Mullins in the local paper here to that effect.

Mr. Fantasy better stick to NY bred races. He ran good but the race was no contest.

2. Well, my only hope is Mr. Fantasy is sitting on a couple
of big races next few out. My hope of seeing The Bid in a Kentucky Derby winner's pedigree is fading.

3. Stardom Bound by a sliver of a nose in the SA Oaks
Incredible she got up after going that wide. Don't think she'll be Derby bound based on that though.

5. I just watched the video of that race.

She was much the best. She was way out in the middle of the track coming out of the
turn. She lost so much ground but still managed to stick her nose out there and
get the job done. Impressive.

6. La. Derby: Now THIS Is Why They Run Races
Will Friesan Fire, whom Larry Jones says is "getting very, very good right now,” sweep the Fair Grounds sophomore stakes? Will Flying Pegasus move forward in his second start off the long layoff? Will Papa Clem step up in his first race on dirt? Will Patena reward the investment made by IEAH Stables?

These are just a few of the questions that'll be answered about a minute and 43 seconds, give or take, after the gates open for the Grade II Louisiana Derby. Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is why they run races.

To cash in on exotics in this complex contest, you must be good. Or lucky. Or a big spender. Or all of the above. You can't win if you don't play, so let's give it a try.

Robby Albarado has chosen to stay with Patena, a regally-bred colt that IEAH sees as the future in this year's Kentucky Derby, over the well-regarded Flying Pegasus. He is a colt that has caught the attention of many a veteran handicapper. A win here earns him $360,000 and a trip to Louisville.
