That's what busts me up, the disparity in ridicule. Stoops' finesse offense has been abused in the mega games. Last night, 41 points below average, nothing serious. Similar against LSU and USC. Hell, the Sooners basically put up nothing even when they beat FSU in 2000. Last year they managed to put up some TDs only because West Virginia had so much cushion they could afford to trade points with that type of lead.
Maybe Oklahoma can celebrate a windfall against Boise State a couple of years ago. That was their glory.
Somehow I remember when Switzer and Osborne would lose a major bowl game with the option style attacks being shut down, and the wolves would come after them, fans and media alike. Terms like unsophisticated and out dated. Hilarious, looking back on it.
Florida was simply more physical when it mattered, in the short yardage plays and several times when the ball was in the air. IMO, the representative play of the night, and what was to come, was Oklahoma with 10 seconds remaining in the first half, 1st and goal but no timeouts remaining, tied 7-7. The TV analyst said obviously Oklahoma needs to throw it into the end zone. Correct, but I wasn't so sure they would. In Sam Bradford's mind, it's still like the regular season in the little finesse league, where a simple pitch to the 2 yard line would be rewarded with an uncontested jog into the end zone. I wasn't shocked at all when Oklahoma tried that. Or when it was blown up. If it weren't for my lifetime distaste for the Gators I would have loved it, the cutesy team having it stuffed down their throats.
Amazing the Big 12 still hasn't earned the ridicule it deserves. Like I posted more than a month ago, "I can't believe anyone takes the Big 12 seriously." Not one of the top 5 teams covered the spread in the bowls, in fact none came closer than 5 points away, a basic indicator of true conference standing as opposed to perception level.
