9. I've been a Red Sox fan since the days of Ellis Kinder and Mel Parnell, yet...
I have always, basically, admired the Yankees (and the NY football Giants, too). Back in those days the Yankees were winning everything all the time. They were tough, excellence personified.

Over the years the best, most intense baseball I've ever enjoyed -- and my scope is narrow -- is New York Vs. Boston. Fabulous, furious, high-drama competition over the decades.

Still, the Yankess have over time caused me to grind my teeth to stubs (#$@%$#@ Bucky Dent), etc. But as a Red Sox fan, in the end I have to welcome the NY competition. You don't really excell until you are tested to your limits -- and the Yankees tend to do that, decade after decade.

I will go to my grave in ecstasy, however, knowing that in my lifetime the Red Sox rose Above and Beyond and won two freaking World Series!

What the hell, with the help of the Yankees this year, the Sox may yet make race of it against the Rays.

13. I know what you mean.
I've been a Yankees fan since out of the womb and for the first 18 years of my life they sucked. They last won a World Series crown the year I was born but then in 1996 they finally returned to the top again! I was thrilled. It's nice to see your teams win a title. The NY Giants have won three titles in my lifetime and my beloved Syracuse men's basketball finally won the title a few years back. I feel every fan should have the experience of their team winning at least one title. It doesn't always happen though so we must enjoy it when it does.
