James Blake just defeated Roger Federer in straight sets. Go James!

Serena is in a third set with Dementieva.

1. Wow.
Good for James. He's such a nice guy (I met him a few times). I hope he wins a medal! :bounce:

3. Good news that Serena and Venus lost, bad news that Roger lost...
...I wonder what it's going to take for him to realize he really needs to get his act together...I'm not convinced he's convinced that he's slipping.

Actually, I didn't feel great that Venus lost. But it's always hysterical watching Serena huff and puff out there. In the 3rd set she was trying ridiculous drop shots or wild swings, just to get the point over with. I'm not sure I can remember a more blatant waste.

And gad, take a look at Zina Garrison, the US coach. She is a whale. I was shocked. Zina didn't have anything resembling Serena's frame but she's already ballooned, not yet age 45. I realize she had bulimia at one point.

Actually, I do commend Venus and Serena for playing the Olympics. Many top American tennis players have dodged the Games since '88, including Roddick this year. I hope the Williams sisters win the doubles.

Roger is definitely in denial. He's been a shadow of himself all year, other than at Wimbledon where he gave a valant effort at 6 in a row.

That loss was sure to knock him down a notch. Incredibly deflating. I was really eager to bet Nadal against him, if they had met here.

5. Roger will go to #2 next week...how low will he drop before he
gets out of denial? It's too bad, because if he gets his act together, he could win the US Open...that's wide-open, in my opinion. Nadal is fading, as he always fades after Wimbledom, so I wouldn't bet on him.

6. Another Spoiler...
...Fernando Gonzalez beat James Blake, 11-9 in the third...not really an upset, though. Or at least not a big one.

9. I just watched the Mens Doubles final
I hardly ever watch doubles but it was great seeing Roger play with a partner. COngrats to them. Roger looked very emotional on the podium during the Swiss anthem. The Bryan brothers got bronze.

Has NBC shown it yet?

10. I don't think so...
...can't tell who I'd like to see win the women's singles...both Sarafina and Dementiava could use a big win...neither never quite broke through yet.
