Red Sox Fans, thoughts on the possibility of trading Manny.
What I'm reading now is that it might not happen.

1. who knows
it may be a lot of theatre. I really hope he stays... but Manny is Manny and Money may be more important to him than the fans. He's not the only one... it is after all a biz.

2. Well, it's 4pm
so it's over. The deal fell apart, so Manny stays in Boston for the rest of the year anyway.

4. The real question is
At what point does Manny stop running to first altogether on ground balls and playable shots to the outfield?

Was there ever a more disgraceful spectacle at Fenway than Manny jogging slowly to first on what would otherwise have been a close play when the Sox were being no hit the other night? He would rather see a complete no-hit humiliation of the Red Sox at home than budge an inch on his twenty million. Well, that's just Manny bein' Manny. You can have him.

14. As a Pirates fan, this is unfortunate
He will play well in Boston, and unlike Manny, keep his mouth shut and play hard.

The Pirates were desperate to get rid of him, like they are anyone who makes more than minimum wage, and probably got screwed while doing it.

15. Am waiting to see what Boston gave up - strong farm team, Pittsburgh may have made out well.

16. Moss and Hansen, it appears
I'll be honest, I live in the Red Sox propaganda zone, where every prospect is the second coming of Fred Lynn and Bill Lee, but this isn't that bad......

17. Hey - I was born in Pawtucket, so I know the zone! Well, Moss and Hansen
have great promise - they did need a change of scenery - here's hoping things work out well for all teams (I've always liked Pittsburgh, class org with Clemente, Stargell, Sanguillen et al).

6. How could anyone be a fan of the last MLB team to integrate?
That's why it took them so long to win a World Series.

It had nothing to do with a curse.

Just the natural result of refusing to put the most talented team on the field due to silly prejudices.

8. Long time Sox fan here. Manny's time in Boston is up. His presence is bad for the team.
We shall see what happens....I enjoyed his playing for years - but it is time for him to go!

10. Would anybody want him, though?
I'm sure people would want his bat, but I think the Sox would have to basically give him away for little more than a song.

They expect he'll prefer anywhere but Boston.

20. Great trade for Boston - they get rid of a cancer, as well as Hansen and Moss (who need change of
scenery) - and get a great hitter in Bay. just what they needed to get things started for them again, methinks! Good luck to LA in dealing with Manny being Manny (though it was often fun watching the antics as a Sox fan....but it grew quite old and stale!)

He'll see a lot of fat fastballs hopefully.

23. Unless there's more to this deal than reported last night, Boston paid to get rid of him
But it's time. The "sore knee" thing in the Yankee series was the end for me.
