50 Year Old Nancy Lieberman Signs with the Detroit Shock
It has been announced that Nancy Lieberman who has been a player and coach in the WNBA has signed a 7 day contract with the Detroit Shock. Lieberman is supposed to play tonight. The second link is just a repeat of the ESPN story at USA Today. So, what do people think about this? Bill Laimbeer claims that Nancy Lieberman is still in great shape at her age.

2. Publicity
And they could use someone else out there with all the suspensions.

But it's a business, and I'm OK with it

4. She's really a rotten human being, I don't care what kind of shape she's in...
...she coached Martina Navratilova for a while and told her she had to hate Chris Evert to win...and Martina was and is very impressionable and took her word. The two were on the outs for many years. Yeah, win at any cost...I still can't stand her.

5. Tiger's Mom
Tiger Wood's mom is the same way. I think she admitted to telling Tiger that he needed to see his opponents as the enemy while he was on the golf course with them. After the tournament he could go back to being their friend. I think a number of people tell their kids and the people they coach to hate people while they are competing with them and then be friends with them after the competition is over. I do not see anything wrong with telling someone to hate a person while they are competing against them. I think it should only extend for the period of the match and then they can go back to liking each other. It is very possible that Lieberman was trying to tell Navratilova to hate Evert while the match was being decided.

10. You should read Chris or martina's biography, or both...
...Nancy had Martina not speaking to Chris, not acknowledging her presence off court or anywhere. Nancy is a nutjob.

13. I went to ODU and was in one class with her. Basketball - and competing -
were everything to her. I have no idea how ODU finally gave her a degree. She wasn't even close when she left school. Inge Nissen and Anne Donovan graduated, though.

I will say this. I've never heard anyone talk so intelligently about basketball than Lieberman. Really. Studies her opponent's style, knows where the dead spots in the floor are, everything. The game ODU played against the Soviet, that's right SOVIET, national team in Dec. 1980 with Lieberman, Nissen and Donovan - in one of her first starts, was THE most exciting sporting event I've ever attended.

It's a farce Nissen isn't in the basketball Hall of Fame with Lieberman and Donovan.

14. I'm sure basketball is her life...
...I still think she's got screwed up ideas on competing, though. Glad Martina finally dumped her and saw the light.

15. Well, I generally agree...
but that's the choice a lot of athletes have to make. Peggy Fleming talked about how even her teamates were her competitors and how she wished ice hockey for women had existed when she was young. She would have loved to have had team mates.

Lieberman caught Tini Navratalova on a downslide and got her competitive again. Much to Rita Mae Brown's distress. But Navratalova was fully aware of what was going on and what it would take. Over time, the utility of it lost value.

No matter how old they said Franco was, he was older than that.

11. Democrat
As far as I know she is a major Democrat. I think she was a big supporter of Jimmy Carter and other Democrats. What in the world would make you think she is a Republican or a McCain supporter?

12. I think I read once that her knees ache her every morning
from playing on hard wood courts for many years. Maybe that's why she wants to hate her opponents
