Why Yankees won't sign Bonds
A rumor was prominent yesterday that the Yankees were pursuing Barry Bonds. But reality was different. The Yanks are not after Bonds or currently stalking any high- profile position player on the trade market. As for Bonds, Brian Cashman said, "We have had no discussions regarding Barry Bonds." The Yankee GM did not want to comment further on the controversial home-run king. But multiple Yankee officials said they would not pursue Bonds because: 1.) He has not played since last season and, at age 44, they did not know what shape he is in and how long his body would endure regular play even as a DH. 2.) They did not want to be involved with an unpopular, disgraced, potentially disruptive player currently under federal indictment. (New York Post)

I guess this puts to rest rumors by those who want to see this steroid using rust bucket back in the big leagues.

5. Two
The other lives in Indiana.

I suspect, though, that he might just like to play devil's advocate.

7. Barry has not been convicted of a crime, nor is he accused by
Major League Baseball of breaking the rules.

But of course, we wouldn't want the facts to get in the way of your blind hatred for baseball's home run king.

3. The Yankers are signing Rich Sexson, so that will rule out the American Hero
going to the Yanks.

6. El Supremo....have the Rockies been mathematically
eliminated from the playoffs yet?

Tell me again how they made it to the World Series last year?

9. Hey, we're only 7 games out of first place.
But I wouldn't bet on the Rox being the wild card team again this year.

I went and saw them sweep the Arrrs on Sunday in 100 degree heat. But last night against the (mutually hated) Dogers (sic), was another story.

8. I'm not sure.
The NY Post is not my favorite paper, though I do think their sports section is usually pretty good. I could see Bonds being signed. New York sports fans are widely recognized as being the most open-minded and forgiving fans anywhere. Even if one were to accept the possibility that in the past, Bonds may have done something that is associated with some minor controversy, that could be forgiven if he were able to step up to the plate when needed, and knock the ball out of the park.

Yankees fans know what it is like to have much of the nation engaged in massive Boston-wing conspiracy against them. We would welcome Bonds, so long as we win the World Series.

14. Why does it say 2001 under the SF Giants cap?
Is that when Bonds signed with the Giants? :eyes:

Or is that when Bonds purportedly began using steroids? :eyes:

Of course, Barry hasn't been convicted of anything, so why the pinstripes? :eyes:

Now here's what's ridiculous:

12. The greatest
player to ever play the game, can't find a team because he refused to kiss the sport writers ass.Players with lesser skill that used drugs, cheated on their wives, gave contributions to scum like bush, are welcomed with open arms. All of the owners have conspired to keep Barry out of the game,I say screw them all.

15. examples, please
I think all the other players with steroid problems have been treated just as badly..McGwire, Sosa...Palmeiro. Oh and none of those players are currently under federal indictment which might end their careers by sending them to jail.
Snort..as for this unfair treatment of Barry..sure right..ever hear of Pete Rose.
Gimme a break. Barry apologists do not have logic or reason in their corner.

17. None of the players you mentioned have endured the kind
of abuse Barry has, and you know that.

And if you don't know that, you obviously haven't been paying attention.

GO NATS! lol

19. First off---- most of those players weren't pricks like Barry---
2nd---none have a tainted home run record like Barry---- 3rd, none are indicted for perjury like Barry----

When you cheat like Barry, you deserve all the fucking scorn thrown your way.

Now are you finally going to admit the dude cheated with steroids or are you still in denial that he used the juice?

20. Barry's an ass
However, McGwire had the record. Sosa was resigned by Texas and probably 70% of the major leaguers were using steroids. Barry was sick of all the players who were getting the attention he deserved. He was absolutely the best hitter of the era. His swing was the sweetest and you couldn't strike him out.
