Great Idea for the Super Bowl.
Since they brought back the extra week between the Conference Championships and the Super Bowl, why don't they play the game on Saturday night? How often do people have to leave at halftime, or in the second half to go home, since they have to work the next day? It seems like it would boost the viewership (which would be good for both advertisers and the NFL), and people could go out and have a good time to watch the game and not have to worry about getting up the next day. Has this ever been considered? Seems like a win-win situation for everybody.

1. But then it won't be "Super Bowl Sunday" anymore!
We can't have that, can we?

2. Come on, we're progressives!
We LIKE change, change is good.

Besides, "Super Bowl Saturday" sounds just as good.

3. Oh it all makes perfect sense, no doubt. And a great idea.
But football (at least professional football) is so tightly associated with Sunday, I don't think it will ever change.

4. Yes, very true.
People seem to cling tightly to tradition, I suppose.

Someday, someday...

8. Yes, but the NFL continues to erode that...
first with MNF, then Saturday games, now some Thursday games.

I wouldn't doubt that it happens some day.

5. You're forgetting to factor in one cultural thing here...

Church. Everybody gets plastered at Superbowl parties, and if the game was on Saturday night....

6. Church, smurch.
Would it kill anyone to miss ONE Sunday? Come on now, God wouldn't mind. Like Benjamin Franklin once said, "Beer is proof that God wants us to be happy." I think getting plastered at a Saturday Night Super Bowl party would be a humble acceptance of God's gracious gift.

Alright, ya caught me. I don't give a shit about church, that's why I think my idea is great. It'd be good for people to miss a Sunday anyway...have fun at a Super Bowl party and skip the guilt fest the next morning.

7. Now keep in mind...
the majority of Americans have NEVER been church-going. Not in the 1950s, not in the 1800s, not in colonial times. Not ever.

Missing church on Sunday is NOT going to be a problem. :)
