CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Bambale Osby scored inside with 21 seconds left to help Maryland stun top-ranked North Carolina 82-80 on Saturday, handing the Tar Heels their first loss of the season.
James Gist finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Terrapins (12-7, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who blew an 11-point lead midway through the second half but still held on in a back-and-forth finish to win here for the first time since 2003.
http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/7696668This is a big stunner. Maryland certainly is having a wretched season (losing to American University of all things!), so this is verrry surprising. This is Gary Williams SEVENTH win over a number one ranked team, most of any active college basketball coach.
Even though he doesn't have as many champsionships as some others but I certainly think he ranks right up there with the best in the college ranks.
They may not go to any post season tournaments, but a win over NC at Carolina is quite an accomplishment for a very erratic team.
Go Terps!!
