3. the rotation is coming together
only one bad game pitched this week. Mussina came back and gave up 1 run over 5. Wang is rounding into form and nearly pitched a perfect game. Hughes' injury isn't as bad as it looked. The Yanks pitched very well all week and it should continue.

8. Only 5.5 back right now.
We were 9 games back in 2005 and 5 games back in 2002 as of this date.

9. Well I'll be pulling for the Red Sox...
Clemens-less (once again). Maybe they'll crash and burn like last year. Maybe they'll have another miracle season. But you can never, ever be optimistic with the Red Sox.

Yankees (almost) always seem to pull through, on the other hand....

But for what it's worth...I'll wait and see how the season ends.

4. I hope he gets his ass kicked
"I am happy at home in Houston" and blah blah blah. Yeah right. Then sign with Houston for league minimum and help them out. They aren't all that good either. Although, as a Cub fan, I'm glad he's out of the NL. But the whole thing just irritates me. The Yankees. Bah!

6. Phillies sign Mike Schmidt

Actually not a bad move cause I think he would be better at 58 defensively then Helms is doing now. Old guys should enjoy their retirement.

This is sarcasm if I need to add that.

11. Maybe But
You may be right about Clemens not really getting along with his family, but he keeps getting deals with teams that let him spend large amounts of time with his family. From what I heard, with this deal with the Yankees Clemens will spend a large amount of time in Houston with his family. Clemens will not have to travel with the team when he is not pitching. I think during those times Clemens will be in Houston with his family.

I think that is when you realize how much money Clemens will make this year. It seems Clemens will make $18 million for pitching and playing in about 24 games. I say 24 games in that in the last few years he seemed to have pitched in about 24 or more games. Clemens is making about $750,000 per game. I guess their may be other athletes who make the same or more, but as of right now I can only think of David Beckham. Even in Beckham's case he is only guaranteed about 6.2 million from soccer, the rest comes from endorsements.

12. The Yankees are a disgrace to baseball.
Edited on Mon May-14-07 10:08 PM by genie_weenie
The Yankees and Bonds are the two biggest disgrace's to baseball today (Pete Rose now is the time to push for your HoF bid). Clemens is a steroid abuser, that's why he misses the first part of the year. How can Yankees fans root for a team made up of other cities stars?

Let's see:
Clemens
Abreu
A-Rod
Giambi
Damon
Mussina

And then other Yankees have just been lured to America from far away shores:
Matsui
Rivera

Who do the Yankees have from their farm system, Jeter? Pettitte? It must be so much fun to be Yankees fan. Let's see who our team can buy this week. And the ESPN push for all things Yankees/Red Sox just adds fuel to the fire.

What a pile of puke.

13. Don't worry about the Yankees.
The Yankees that won four championships in five years were a team built on the farm and through good front office moves. This team, like the Yankee teams of the 80's won't win a championship as currently constructed. The Yankees as we know them now (2002-present) are a team of high priced choke artists. As long as George Steinbrenner insists on playing fantasy baseball instead of putting together a team that produces in October the Yanks will fall short.

I can't think of a moment in the post season where Giambi, A-Rod, Abreu, or Matsui came through with a clutch hit or play in the field.

16. Matsui hits .336 when its late and close.
I don't know any Yankee fan in his right mind that would describe Matsui as a choke artist.

And Abreu was one of the bright spots in the loss to the Tigers last year,

14. Similar Thought about Clemens
I too am one of the people who believes that Clemens is or may using steroids. That was the only reason I could think of for a guy to miss half of a season supposedly deciding whether or not to retire. For at least the last two-three years he has done the same thing. I realize he works hard during and after the season to keep fit, but I think he may also use steroids during the offseason and then waits for the steroids to leave his system before he coming back to baseball.

I tend to think this not only look bad for Clemens and the Yankees, but also for the MLB ownership. They on the one hand say they want to get steroids out of baseball and they slightly go after Barry Bonds, but then they offer large amounts of money to a guy like Clemens, who anyone could think is on steroids. You must remember three teams went after Clemens and two were definitely willing to give he the deal he wanted. So, that says to me the baseball owners do not really care about steroid use and do not really want to end the use of steroids.

15. Yankees from the farm system on the active roster
Rivera pitched in the minors as did Wang.

Then there's Jeter, Posada, Cano, Cabrera, Henn, DeSalvo & Proctor.

That's 10 guys from the farm system. Whose your team again?

17. You can't tell me you're happy about the way
the Yankees have been putting their team together for the last few years. Are you happy to have a steriod cheating Giambi on your team? Clemens is a BoSox. Is it great he's a Yankee again?

I loathe what baseball has become. Free Agency and steriods. I was a All-time Losers (Cubs) fan for years, I still watch them from time to time when I'm in Chicago. But these current cubs aren't my team either.

Soriano, Lilly? Blech! Yankees!
Derek Lee? He's an excellent all around player but he's a Marlin.
The Cubs have Murton (drafted by the BoSox but developed by the cubs), Theriot, Zambrano, Hill, Pie and a few guys down in the minors. I fully expect your Yankees to make a play for Zambrano next year, probably at about 18mil a year for 5 years. Check back during free agency to see if I'm right.

I'm not a socialist in terms of real world economics, but baseball is a closed system which can only work if their is a level field for all teams. Sure the Yankees spend the money, but is it good? A team doesn't have to draft every player on their roster, but come on

I'm just happy, the Yankees have spent a billion dollars over the last 5 years and haven't won the Series in that span. Sadly, they did make it twice.
