5. Every single one.
And if the tables were turned do you think for a minute Wingnuts wouldn't be going on about how we're not real fans and just bandwagoners.

Sense of entitlement indeed!

7. Sense of entitlement?
Meaning what? Expecting your team to win? What fan doesn't?

3. Big article in the paper about that
It's the culture of winning; Wings fans are so used to it, it's nothing special anymore.

4. Not just that - the beginning of baseball, the end of the Pistons' season
It's an embarasse de riches! But, if Detroit gets out of the first round in hockey this year, excitement will build. I think people are holding their breath on that one.

8. NOOOOOO Its "Hockeytown" don't ya know!
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 08:49 PM by drking81
Those seats are corporate held, yeah that's the ticket. Like a "see and say" you can count on any number of canned responses for why the Red Wings aren't selling out "The Joe". What will their excuse be when the Saddledome is packed and 20 times louder then "Hockeytown" could ever imagine? I bet you anything most of todays Red Wing "fans" didn't pay attention to this team before 1994.

We will see what happens this post season. The Wings are a feast or famine team in the playoffs. LOL, Hasbro, at least you live in Denver! The Wings, Pistons, and Tigers are all residents of that run down rust belt hellhole have. Oh and Lisa has extra innings back on cable. So she has that going for her, which is nice.

drking81's greatest hockey memories!

1. Kings beat the Leafs in the 1993 Campbell Conference Finals
2. Kings beat Detroit 4-2 in the 2001 Western Quarters, you remember that game 4? down 3-0 with a little over eight minutes to go in the third, won in overtime 4-3. I have never heard the Staples Center as loud as that night.
3. Kings beat the defending champion Flames in the 1990 Smyth division semifinals.
4. Avalanche eliminate Detroit in 1996, 1999, 2000!

BTW Hasbro, are you the dude at hfboards.com? I love your posts in the Avs forum!

Lisa, why is it whenever I want the Wings to win a series, like against San Jose, or Anaheim they never come through for me?

9. So, you don't like the team, that's fine
But why insult the city? Or why assume that if the city is, in your opinion, bad it shouldn't have good sports teams? The state of Michigan has had very little to cheer about with our markets being flooded with Asian cars and car factories (and their markets closed to ours) thanks to the Bush Administration's corrupt trade policies. Why can't we be happy our teams are doing well and cheer them on?

And, ftr, the Lions, year and year out one of the worst teams in the NFL, routinely sell out their stadium. Maybe, with the Pistons, Wings, and Tigers all doing well, people in our beleaguered state have to make choices on where to spend their entertainment dollars. Or maybe they can't afford the tickets at all and have to stay home and watch the games on TV. So what? We'll still cheer them on. Go Wings! Go Pistons! Go Tigers!

16. I know, and I'm sorry
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 07:12 PM by drking81
My first post on this thread was a Friday "blowing off steam" post. I was just thinking of all the times I have walked into Staples Center for a Kings/Wings game and saw all those Wings sweaters. Unlike many Los Angelenos, I live and die with the Kings, Lakers, Dodgers, and Trojans and it really gets to me that in a city of 3.9 million, a county of 12 million, and a metro of 18 million we can't get more support for the Kings.

Sorry about that Detroit crack in my first post. I wish I could take it back, I hate seeing cities like Detroit and Pittsburgh struggle. As for your Pistons, I'm still trying to get over 1989, and 2004. I'll always have 1988! Lakers win the NBA Championship, Dodgers win the World Series, and USC wins the Pac 10, we lost to Michigan 22-14 in the Rose Bowl though. The only downside was the Presidential Election.

19. We've heard plenty directed at our city.
Entire websites devoted to it. And we have to endure the 200k or so obnoxious Wingnuts who don't think that much of Detroit themselves.

Below capacity for game 2. Move them to Winnipeg.

20. Of course before Game 1 the Wings sold out 452 straight games
But times are tough in Detroit, there was just another round of layoffs, no one knows what's going to happen with Chrysler, the Pistons are in the playoffs too.....I think fans are saving up $$ hoping that the Wings will get to the second round this year. I didn't hear that Game 2 didn't sell out, but I was up near Canada watching on a tiny black and white TV so I couldn't tell. It sounded nice and loud, though!!!

13. Well we took the Ducks' coach after losing to them!
Don't remind me about that San Jose series; I cried real tears. It was the first time I'd ever gone golfing and we golfed 18 holes in the pouring rain and sleet and I got frozen to the bone. Then we were supposed to host our friends for a Sonics' playoff watching party (we'd bought the pay-per-view). After the Wings lost it was so hard to be in a good mood; I went out in my yard and cried for about five minutes. Then I pulled myself back together and went inside.

I don't like the Avs, but some of it stems from the Pepe Lemieux incident where he almost killed Kris Draper and only sat out a few games - Avs fans don't think Bertuzzi should have been allowed to come back and maybe he shouldn't have, but if Lemieux got to, then Bertuzzi should too. Of course, the mitigating factor in both those dirty hits was Marc Crawford - he's the real problem, IMO.

GO WINGS!

I hope it's the Rangers and Wings in the finals; all Original Sixers (I know that will piss off the fans of all the other teams, that's why I'm sayin' it!) I tried to get my boyfriend to wear the Original Six hat I bought him to a game in Vancouver last year, but he wouldn't.

17. I bet the tears were real.
The first time your team has a real shot at winning the cup since the 50's and a bogus expansion team beats you in the first round. If you can't tell the Avs are my number two team, although a distant second. I don't like Crawford that much, so I guess I'll have to tolerate him and his love of Dan Cloutier. You must LOVE Cloutier, I know Nick Lidstrom does! A Sonics viewing party? Too funny, they also lost in the first round that year.

18. They did, though the only way you could watch playoffs that year was PPV
and we had the cable box and our friends didn't. The tears WERE real because I was so cold and tired from the sleet golf, but also I just figured a lot of Seattle chumps would come over and say ha ha ha, San Jose beat your team (only a couple did, though).

A funny story about that - after we had that party, a very nice-mannered friend of ours thought I was a big Sonics fan and bought me a rhinestone brooch that spelled out SONICS. I thought, where the hell will I ever wear THIS? Well, my friends, the time came. A few years later, the Sonics played the Bulls in the finals. As you might imagine, I don't like the Bulls. So I wore my SONICS brooch to work every day they played! The comments I got! Everyone loved it, everyone wanted one! I still have the thing, though I've never had the chance to wear it again.

12. Bulls are primed and ready
Former Piston Ben Wallace will make a statement against the Pistons in the Eastern Conference finals. Or not. In truth, I don't know if the Bulls are quite there yet, but soon. When are the Lions going to boot Matt Millen? Even I, as a die hard Packer fan feel sorry for all you Lions fans.

15. People come to games with Fire Millen signs but they won't show them on TV
I did see one at College Game Day once - and the Game Day wasn't in Michigan, and Michigan wasn't involved - someone just saw his chance!!!!
