Worst team owner in sports currently
So I am just curious after having several discussions with people about how Danny Boy Snyder has done a good job destroying his beloved Washington football team. Obviously thats my opinion on the subject but I would be very curious to hear other people's ideas here.

3. I think whomever owns
the San Diego Chargers deserves serious consideration for such an award. Replacing Schottenheimer with Norv Turner?

5. Just Sit And Spin Baby: Al Davis!
Snyder is a dickheaded moron, no question. It's just that when it comes to rotten team owners, the competetion is extremely fierce.

15. I 2nd that!
And we (the taxpayers) built the stadium for those assholes!

I won't even watch them on tv - they've squandered a lot of good will through their stupidity

Every draft, the experts give the Cardinals high marks, yet every year the Cardinals suck. They have one playoff win since the end of WWII.

10. The Wirtz family, Chicago Blackhawks, hands down!
When I was a kid growing up in Chicago in the 60's and 70's, the Blackhawks owned the town. Seriously, they were a tougher ticket than the Bears, Cubs or Sox. Sell outs every game, high ratings on WGN and radio, lead story in the sports section, etc. Then the Wirtz's decided to pull home games off TV thinking it would hurt ticket sales using the excuse it was to protect the investment of their "season reservation holders." Though still popular in the 80's interest waned. True, interest in the NHL in general dropped quite a bit and they soon had no games on TV. A couple of generations of potential fans never saw a game and they are dead as a doornail now.

Their games are at 1/3 capacity, they are relegated to the middle pages in the sports section, sports talk radio won't touch em as a topic (they joke it will kill their ratings as there are only 10,000 fans left in town) and NO station bid on their radio rights, they have to purchase radio time to air the games. The minor league Wolves sifted off many of the hockey fans in town and are arguably more popular.

In addition to their backwards marketing program their tightwad ways made George Halas look like a drunken sailor on shore leave after getting paid. They lost nearly every star and further alienated the few remaining fans they had.

There was a time I could name every played on every shift, now I could not name a third of the teams in the league.

11. Captain Birdseye
Or Ken Bates as he is otherwise known.

I'm so glad that Sheffield Wednesday told him to piss off and he went and brought Leeds instead. And it's not often that you hear a Wednesdayite say something nice about our current chairman!

14. I'll second Dan Snyder
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 01:16 PM by smtpgirl
he tries to live out his fantasy with Gibbs & Super Bowls. He is so impatient, all he does is change things every year.

With that kind of mentality, will the Redskins ever get to play in a Super Bowl again?

16. Dishonorable mention for worst owner all time: Donald Trump
Anyone else remember the USFL from the mid-'80s? It started out as a spring pro football league, and while it was rarely great football, it was reliably reasonably good football. In short, it was perfect for football junkies who needed a fix year-round.

Then The Donald decided it was his ticket into the NFL: The league would switch to fall to compete more directly with the NFL, and at the same time bring an anti-trust lawsuit against the NFL. The idea was to force a snazzy settlement and resulting merger.

However, the court awarded the USFL a grand total of $3, and it was never heard from again.

Since thene there have been other attempts at establishing offseason football, ranging from arena football to the embarrassment of the XFL. But the USFL was the best of the type. Thanks, Mr. Combover...

19. Nope. Trump fades away compared to Harold and the Ballards owner of the T.O. Maple Leafs.
There was elderly Harold, his girlfriend, Yolanda who wasn't married to him, but changed her name to match his anyway.

It got so weird, their hijinks made the front page of the Wall St. Journal.

with Danny Snyder running second - although, the 'Skins ARE the most valuable franchise in the NFL, maybe the whole world.

21. What? Nobody mentions George Steinbrenner?
The man has had a negative impact not only on his franchise, but on baseball as a whole.

Notice the Yankees always do best when he sits down and shuts up and lets the manager run the team.
