1. Art Shell Steps Down As Raiders Coach
<snip>

"Art Shell's second stint as coach of the Raiders ended after just one season, the franchise's worst in more than four decades. Shell met with owner Al Davis on Thursday to discuss the future of the team following a 2-14 season that was the worst for Oakland since 1962. The team issued a statement after the meeting saying Shell would not return as coach for the final season of his contract

"While Art will no longer serve as head coach, he and Mr. Davis have discussed and will continue to discuss opportunities for Art to remain a valued member of the Raider organization," the team said in a statement."

2. Who'd want to coach the Raiders?
Quality up-and-comers like Ken Whisenhunt and Bobby Petrino want no part of it. They mentioned on the FOX telecast last night that Oakland may go after LSU's Russell instead of the more hyped Brady Quinn.

3. It's not as bleak as it seems. Look how bad San Francisco was two years ago.
The Raiders have a decent defense that's mostly signed through next year. The offensive play calling was one-dimensional and old-fashioned, called by a coordinator who had been out of football the past several years. And Shell was trying to coach the O line in new blocking techniques, which apparently never caught on.

4. Take it from a Saints Fan
The Raiders number one priority should be to get rid of Aaron Brooks.

5. Well they'll have the first pick in the 2007 Draft.
And this is Troy Smith's last year at OSU. Need I say more?

6. No. That's who I'd expect them to go after.
