Overmatched
Should the NCAA put an end to big time football team taking on minor football teams? Today the University of Texas is just brutalizing Rice University. I watched part of the game and it was just sad. The UT offense and defense was just rolling over Rice's offense and defense. On a series of plays on both offense and defense Texas just destroyed Rice. First, on offense the Texas running back literally drug the Rice defender. On the next play the Texas running back just ran over the Rice defenders. I think it was the next series in which the Rice quarterback (due to his own weakness) could not even get out of the end zone. As a result, Texas got the ball back at about half field. Then it took them about one to two plays to score another touchdown. Now Texas leads Rice 45-0. Rice's team looks so small compared to the Texas team.

A few weeks ago the same think happened in the LSU-ULL game. LSU totally destroyed ULL. The score was something like 45-9. That was just sad.

I think this should be stopped. Why have these big football teams beat the mess out of these little football teams? What is the point of this type of stuff?

1. the smaller programs make a lot of money that way
They get a payout for showing up to the game, while the bigger schools get (a) money from the gate and (b) a chance to warm-up for more challenging games once conference season rolls around.

2. well, sometimes it works
every week this season a div 1-AA team has beaten a BCS-conference school

And don't feel too bad for Rice, they picked up a $750,000 paycheck for their trouble.

3. Yeah, JFK was a lil' pie-in-the-sky with his simile way back when
"Why does Rice play Texas?"

Maybe Rice had a chance against Texas back then. Hell, back then Navy (w/ Roger Staubach) beat Notre Dame. Never again though.

But like stated above, both teams make money. The big teams will take a 'means nothing' win a hundred times over taking a chance
of getting jammed like Oklahoma did v. Oregon.
