Marion Jones cleared by negative drug test

Five-time Olympic medalist Marion Jones has been cleared of doping allegations after her 'B' sample came back negative.

The American sprinter's initial sample had tested positive for the banned blood-boosting drug erythropoietin (EPO) in June, but the result of the back-up test has now put an end to the doping allegations that has dogged her for the last month.

Jones, who would have faced a two year ban should the 'B' sample have tested positive, was delighted with the outcome and reaffirmed that she has never taken performance-enhancing drugs.

"I am absolutely ecstatic," the thirty-year-old said in a statement on BBC Sport Online. "I am anxious to get back on the track. I have always maintained that I have never ever taken performance-enhancing drugs, and I am pleased that a scientific process has now demonstrated that fact."
