What I like most about the new MNF
Two words: Tony Cornheiser. I love that he is constantly calling Theisman on his bullshit. In previous years, Joe has just spouted complete nonsense with nobody saying a word. Tony isn't letting anything past. I like the new MNF team--well I hate Joe, but this is a better grouping.

1. I love PTI
Tony and Michael going at each other always make me laugh, but I haven't caught it lately. Those two are still on, right?

4. Best crew yet. I loved the fact that they talked about football...
...imagine that! It even made Joe a better broadcaster, because he knew it wasn't the old game anymore, and that he would have to say something that was relevant. And they actually had sideline reporters, who knew something about football, rather than the latest fashion trends. I have to admit, good job ESPN.

5. Tony K is great. I LOVED his fear there'd be overtime.
He's been whining for the past six months about having to go to Baton Rouge next week for a meaningless pre-season game.

8. He won't be going to Baton Rouge
The game is in Shreveport. If baton rouge makes him whine, he'll be in full huff cry having to go to Shreveport.

6. Hehehe...there will be some fireworks
I thought Tony was restrained and loosened up a little bit as the show went on.

I can see that Joe is not going to be a happy camper with Tony around.

7.  I love Mr. Tony.....
If you ever heard his daily ESPN Radio show which he quit a few years ago or his simi;ar show on a local DC station.... you know how great he is. He can carry a radio show for 3 hours without having to interview morons (all athletes and coaches).

I really hope he fails on MNF because then he'll be back on his daily show.

An example of what Mr. Tony is really like.... He had Home Depot as a sponsor. However, he said he'd never been in a Home Depot in his life. He knew HD had hardware stuff and things one got in order to repair items on one's house. Well, Mr. Tony doesn't fix things. Mr. Tony calls someone else to fix things. Reminds me of many of the guys I grew up with in Miami.

Another.... He got a new Cadillac CTS last winter. In April when the time changed to Day Light Savings he asked listeners to e-mail him on what he should do in order to get the clock in his car set correctly. One listener e-mailed him asking why he just doesn't go buy another car. One with the time set correctly. Another said he should just move to a time zone that corresponded to the time currently set on his car.

Also.... He did about a 20 minute talk on the Day Kennedy was shot. He and I are the same age and his recall was so similar to mine it was just chilling.

God, I miss Mr. Tony on my XM Radio.

9. His 1 hour discussion of his colonoscopy on ESPN radio ....
Edited on Tue Aug-15-06 02:49 PM by MookieWilson
I'm SURE that went over big with the folks there. I loved it.

I made a point of listening to his show when Sinatra and Hepburn died. I knew he'd honor them well, and he did.

He's great.

He goes to the movie theatres near my house all the time.

I've heard he'll be on Washington Post radio in the off season. Part of the problem with his old show was that the Post got its own radio station and forbade WP writers from being on other networks. So, this put the crimp on Wilbon, Lisa de Mor... etc. being on the show. I'm sure it made his contract dodgy too.

He suggested he'd be on the air again. So, I think it will be WP radio.

10. Kornheiser is the man!
Mike Tirico was OK on the play-by-play, but he has none of the fire of other PBP guys. He'll be gone next year, bank.

Joe T is possibly the most annoying color commentator (moved to #1 since his old cohort at ESPN isn't working... Paul McGuire??? I think this was him, he was so annoying I'm trying to forget.)

God forbid Joe T is doing a Redskins game, the homerness comes out. He and his now-unemployed cohort ruined the commentary during the Bucs-Skins game back in Jan... and it was the single best football game all year!!! Such ass cannot be forgiven!

Kornheiser should work well, even surrounded by mediocrity and ass. His commentary in the Post and PTI border on the sublime at times, going well beyond knowing his shit on sports.

11. You and I are on the same page.
I don't think Kornheiser would have let Joe T get away with that crap. I liked that he made Joe T support his absurd conclusions last night. It is AWESOME to have someone that actually knows about what is happening in the game right now rather than Joe T and his skewed view of the world. As a Viking fan, my "favorite" Joe T moment was when he said the Vikings breaking the single season scoring record that Joe T and the Redskins previously held shouldn't count since the Vikings didn't win the Super Bowl that year. What an ass.
