Synthetic testosterone found in Landis urine sample
If this is true Landis will be stripped of his title in the Tour de France. I really liked him and will be sad to see this happen.

Report: Synthetic testosterone found in Landis urine sample
    July 31, 2006

NEW YORK (AP) -- Tests show that some of the testosterone in Floyd Landis' system at the Tour de France was synthetic and not naturally produced by his body as he claimed, according to a newspaper report.

The French antidoping lab testing the American cyclist's samples determined that some of the hormone came from an external source, The New York Times reported on its Web site Monday night, citing a person at the International Cycling Union with knowledge of the result. ...

But after determining that Landis's ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone was more than twice the limit of 4:1, the lab performed a carbon isotope ratio test on the first of Landis's two urine samples, the person told the Times.

That test determines whether the testosterone it is natural or synthetic.

Landis officially requested the testing of his backup urine sample Monday for an elevated testosterone ratio. If the "B" test is negative, Landis would be cleared. If it's positive, which Landis' lawyers say they expect, he could be stripped of his Tour victory and banned for two years.

The Times reported that Landis was in New York on Monday night and could not be reached for comment.

2. .
Why this strong disbelief in his case when more than 50 riders already got caught? Is it impossible for him to be a cheater because he is an American? Because the drug labs that exist in the US, too, only produce for foreign athletes?
Sadly, whether he got raised Mennonite or not (and I heard he left home early), it doesn't really mean much. This is business, it's about earning millions and winning the biggest bicycle race of the world.
And it's about being competitive...against people who most likely take drugs, as well.

One has to wait for the result of the other probe. But it seems that everybody expects the same result.

its simply disappointing
people don't like disappointment. they like heroic athletes overcoming adversity.

in a world where everything is debased, sports functions as a respite. but when EVERYTHING is debased, sports is included.

its enought to make one a cynic.

4. um. Mennonites don't drink Whiskey
so there goes that defense. (meaning that if he was drinking whiskey, and being competative in the first place, he has left the mennonite world behind)
