1. What a tool
The more I learn about Materazzi and this whole incident the more I think Zidane shoulda stepped on his crotch for good measure after the head-butt.

2. Thank you
Some of the shots he takes in the video are meant to cause injury.

3. If the reports I've heard about Materazzi...
...giving Zidane a Texas Titty-Twister are true, in addition the video evidence presented here, then, yeah, Zidane was more than justified in head-butting the guy.

5. so he's a thug
and an enforcer. doesn't mean that Zizou should have let him provoke him like that- still, makes you kinda wish the head butt was to the face, doesn't it?

6. Materazzi is who he is.
It doesn't change Zidane's actions. It doesn't justify them in any way. And it doesn't erase the fact that Zidane has his own history of violence on the pitch that precedes this interaction.

7. Zidane has, what? fourteen lifetime red cards?
He's got a history of violent behavior on the pitch himself

Seems like you could make the same argument about him....

8. I can't speak authoratatively on the subject
but I would be willing to bet his Red cards were not a result of vicious injury causing behavior.

9. actually, they were
He missed two games in the '98 world cup for stomping on another players groin. A red card is given for "vicious injury causing behavior". That's practically the definition. Zidane has a history of losing his temper and getting tossed from games because of it. It's not the first time he's head butted someone.

He's no angel.

You can kill someone by striking them in the chest. It's no small thing.
