Women's Snowboardcross *****SPOILER*********
I have no idea what to think of this--was what she did really that dangerous so that she should not have tried it? In other words, was she that stupid to do this?

Jacobellis hot-dogs jump, falls and loses gold
American finishes second in snowboardcross; Switzerland's Frieden wins

BARDONECCHIA, Italy - An Olympic celebration turned into a mountain-sized embarrassment for Lindsey Jacobellis.

Coasting to what should have been an easy victory, the American made a hot-dog grab of her board on the second-to-last jump. It caused her to fall and while she scrambled to her feet, Switzerland’s Tanja Frieden sped past and became the first champion in the strange and wild sport of Olympic women’s snowboardcross Friday.

Jacobellis won silver, but should have had the gold. She was well, well ahead of Frieden, and the other two women in the four-rider final had fallen long before.

1. I watched her blow this
in utter amazement. She was so far ahead. Oh well, at least another Vermonter got a medal.

3. Ugghhh...
Hate to say it, but karma some how must have played a role. The showboating is a little obnoxious. I don't think it's very sportsmanlike since it seems like it's rubbing it in the face of the other competitors.

4. It seems obvious that it was that dangerous
since she fell on her ass after doing it. She shold have just gotten it done, but she's young. I'm sure she has learned.

5. yes it was
they compared it to how she took the jump during qualifying, and it was considerably different. Not a particularly difficult maneuver, they said, but entirely unnecessary. She got caught up in the excitement of the moment and must not have realized how tired her body was.

6. It was fairly basic but you can't impose your own barriers
Just a method air. She can do it thousands of times without that error but as someone else wrote you've got to take into consideration your body has never run for Olympic gold before. Just leave it out and get to the line.

I was far less impressed with her pathetic explanation than the error. Just admit you showboated and screwed up. She could have become a charming figure who people sympathized with. Instead, she attempted a remarkably weak semi-denial and tried to pretend she was thrilled with the accomplishment.

7. Showboating is not an Olympic sport
Serves her cocky-ass right.

How could she be that stupid? Trying to do a trick off a jump right before the finish line with a huge lead....then she falls and loses her Gold 100ft from the finish.

Snowboard-cross is pretty cool though...lots of bumping & crashes....like NASCAR.

8. God FORBID she have fun
The Olympics should NOT BE ABOUT FUN. Everyone competing should be morose and sad. NO FUN ALLOWED.

9. U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!!
You know darn well you'd be singing a different tune if a gal from some other country hotdogged like this. You can be serious about your sport, you can try to win and have fun. That's what most of the athelete do.
