Houston and Team Names
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 11:32 AM by erpowers
I do not mean to be mean to people who are from Houston, but lately they have been giving their team so bad names. Today the name of Houston's pro soccer team was revealed. The name is the Houston 1836ers. Also, the football team is called the Texans. As for the soccer team I could have understood it if they had just shortened the name to the 36ers. I understand that the year 1836 is important to Houston, but why not do like San Francisco and just call them the 36ers. I just think the 1836ers is just a bad name.

1. 1836ers?? Are you kidding me?
1836 is the year of Texas Independence, but for fuck's sake that's just a dumbass name. Texans is freaking stupid too. Like there aren't Texans anywhere else in the state.

The Oilers was original. They should have asked Bud Adams for the name back.

2. Well it's pretty original
From what I understand it isn't the Houston 1836ers it's just "Houston 1836" but I could be wrong. I'm sure they'll just be refered to as the 36ers.

I think it could grow on me.

4. Not To Contradict
It may be the Houston 1835 but the newscaster this morning said that it was the 1836ers. However, it just might be the Houston 1836.

5. It is just the Houston 1836.
ESPN is all over it. Ridiculous name.

Tony Kornheiser just asked if the mascot would be a calendar!

6. That's a great line
Thanks for sharing it. I don't get to see PTI very often, but Kornheiser cracks me up.

3. Another stupid name.
Uh, the other 49 states don't give a rat's ass about Texas, or what happened there, except that we're stuck with Boy George for another few years.

8. Dumb, dumb, dumb
I'm an MLS fan, and even I think the name is stupid. :banghead:

As for other Houston names, I think the Houston Aeros hockey team wasn't a bad name (and is a pretty good logo and jersey - at least in the IHL days).
